MxLarge Story
Frossard is French MX2 champion
Press release Tuesday 19th August 2008 By Pascal Haudiquert
Coming to Lacapelle Marival with a strong lead after his successive wins in Villars sous Ecot and Gaillac Toulza, Steven arrived in Lacapelle with some pressure. Second of his qualifying group he was careful at the start of the opening race, coming fourth.
He passed Boissière, his last rival for the title and came second behind Tarroux, and then took the lead of the race. He was leading pretty easily when he crashed in the eighth circulation, losing the lead and coming back in action second, his classification in this race.
He started the following race in second position behind Boissière, and did a consistent race as this result was able to secure the title – his second one after a junior title earlier in his career – before the third and last heat.
Racing against the 450 in the ‘super finale’ Steven had no more pressure and did a strong performance; he passed numerous 450 and clinched the third position – and first MX2 bike – behind Aubin and Pourcel.
Third of the qualifying MX1 session, Gregory took a third and a second position in the MX1 races. He got another good start in the ‘super finale’ but felt tired and couldn’t hold his third position until the finish line.
Eighth of this race, he finished his first ever MX1 season third overall behind Pourcel and Aubin. In Heinola (Finland) Loic Larrieu also got a podium; fifth and second of the MX2 European round, he finished third of the event and is now only two points from the second place in the standings.
Steven Frossard: "Until the end of the second race I was stressed, as this title was one of my goal and was also important for the team and Kawasaki. Saturday I heard a small noise on the bike and we changed the engine, as nobody wanted to take any risk. I was careful at the first start, but when I saw that I had a faster rhythm than my rivals I took the lead. I felt pretty easy on the bike, except in a corner and I tried a new line; during my second attempt I lost the front wheel and crashed, losing time. Then I secured my second place, and in the next race I did the same as it was more than enough to be champion. I was more relaxed for the ‘super finale’, and I enjoyed a lot racing among the 450 on this nice track. Now I have some other goals to reach during the last GP’s, and I will prepare carefully the next Irish round"
Gregory Aranda: "My goal this season was a top five for this first attempt on a 450, and I’m happy with this podium. For sure I missed the second place just for a few points, but this weekend Aubin was faster. The track was perfect, with deep ruts and bumps, and in the last race I felt tired and lost my pant! Next week I will go to Stefan Evert’s charity race, it will be a nice event and then I will trained again on the 450 to prepare the last GP’s"
