Billy Mackenzie wins MX1 title in England

Press release Monday 22th September 2008 By CAS Honda

CAS Honda rider Billy Mackenzie ripped through this years British MX1 championship with the same spectacular showing of his 2007 victory. The Scottish rider made perfect preperation for this weeks Red Bull Motocross of Nations by winning the championship ahead of James Noble of the KTM UK team.

Billy made easy work of regaining his MX1 British Championship title by winning his first race at Hawkstone Park. This is the 9th consecutive British Championship title for the CAS Team and to top the day off, CAS went 1-2 in the end of season Mechanics Race!!

After qualification, Billy sat on pole position for the first race of the day, in glorious sunshine. He gated in the top half dozen and a few laps later passed Rowson to take the lead, and at the chequered flag, the championship.

He celebrated by stopping on the jump after the finish line and showing his delight to the crowd. For the second race Billy mounted a 1998 CR500 which Neil Prince had put together during the week, Billy had never ridden the bike before, but was up for the challenge after clinching the title in the first race.

He was running in 5th and seemed to be getting to grips with the 2-stroke and getting faster, but after 6 laps Billy pulled into the pits with vibration problems, however the smile on his face showed he had had some fun out there.

Billy stepped onto the podium at the end of the day chuffed with regaining his British Championship title. After the podium it was onto the end of season mechanics race, in which Neil Prince and Paul Teasdale entered. A good laugh all round, and great results with Neil winning and Paul second.

The Team now prepare for the huge event this coming weekend at the Motocross Des Nations at Donington Park.

Quotes:

Billy MacKenzie… It’s fantastic to win the championship again especially after a year with a few ups and downs. It has really helped having a great team behind me and the bike has been awesome. I’m looking forward to next season already when I’m determined to improve on my consistency at the GPs.

Neil Prince… Basically, the season almost went the way we planned it, he won the championship on the amount of wins, and he really shouldn’t have ridden at one round. Today Billy seemed to save himself for the 2nd race which was very entertaining. Next year will be very interesting!
