World Indoor Enduro - Trials Legend Lampkin performs

Press release Monday 25th January 2009 By Jake Miller

Dougie Lampkin followed up his strong debut performance at the Tough One extreme event last weekend with a superb fouth place at his first ever World Indoor Enduro competition. Despite having no previous experience of such an event Dougie just missed out on a podium finish against a star studded and highly established field.

Although Lampkin did not compete in the opening round of the series, the thirty two year old ex multi World trials champion now holds seventh in the overall standings with just one round remaining.

Negotiations regarding Dougie’s participation at the final round in Madrid early next month remain ongoing after his excellent initial outing.

Whilst the final result was a success, Lampkin’s day was anything but easy, as the broad shouldered Yorkshireman got to terms with his new discipline in the tough and tense environment of a World championship event.

With only limited practice, Dougie only managed fifth place in his opening-qualifying race and had to transfer to the main final via a last chance-qualifying showdown.

Lampkin soon showed he was a fast learner by winning this, his second ever enduro race. Against a whole host of factory riders Dougie lined up for the first of the three main finals on what was a production based Beta RR450 four stroke.

However despite the smaller and lighter two stroke machines having a distinct advantage in the confines of the arena course, Lampkin came home in a highly pleasing third spot, and just ahead of Tough One winner and factory KTM rider Taddy Blazusiak.

The second final was not so plain sailing for Dougie, with a crash in the rock pile whilst holding second position Lampkin fought back brilliantly over the next three laps to take fifth spot as he crossed the line to set up a thrilling last encounter, with a overall podium place now a real prospect.

Unfortunately even a close third position during his final outing was not enough for Dougie to claim a place on the points-podium.

Delighted with his performance Dougie stated.

“It almost feels as good as a win, as I was not expecting to shine at all, especially after such a tough start to the day. It was very much a case of learning on the job and by the last race I was getting somewhere near the quicker riders.” “My starts were really bad and left me with a lot of work to do in each race. It’s definitely something I need to practice, as being a trials rider for so long it is not something I have ever thought about before. Overall it’s been a very positive first attempt. “ Dougie concluded.
