AMA Nationals - A Month Away

Posted on April 28, 2021

With the AMA supercross championship finishing up this weekend, it means we will be running into the AMA Nationals pretty quickly and as a motocross fans (and a less an SX fan), I can't wait. As always the question will be, can the AMA supercross champion (probably Cooper Webb) run up front with Eli Tomac in 2021 outdoors, but also, can defending champion Zach Osborne be competative in 2021. How about former two time MX champion Ken Roczen?

Now just a month away here is a look at the round one circuit, Pala Raceway, or FOX Raceway, depending on what you want to call it.

“The 2021 schedule has been developed through a collective effort alongside all of our event organizers, and we’re thrilled to see such legendary venues back on the calendar,” Managing Director at MX Sports Pro Racing Roy Janson explains. “The outlook surrounding the fight to eradicate COVID-19 has provided a sense of optimism amongst our group, which has us hopeful to welcome spectators at all the races while also allowing nearly every one of our events to remain on their traditional dates.”

The 2021 AMA Motocross Championship Series isn’t quite normal, but looks nothing like the necessarily imaginative calendar last year. There is only one example of a track having more than one round—Fox Raceway in California—and Loretta Lynn’s is looking like a one-off idea, as it is not on the 2021 program. The four-part 2021 calendar has three breaks before an uninterrupted five-race sprint to the end of the season.

Part 1 of the series is the opening Fox Raceway National round in Pala on May 29, followed by the Thunder Valley National in Colorado.

Pala previously served as the season finale of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship for back-to-back seasons in 2010 and 2011, which signified the return of the sport to the San Diego area following an absence that spanned multiple decades after the closure of famed Carlsbad Raceway. During those two seasons, Ryan Dungey and Dean Wilson claimed back-to-back victories in the 450 Class and 250 Class, respectively, with Wilson amassing an undefeated record by winning all four motos.

The Pala Band of Mission Indians have been tremendous motocross supporters for many years and we're proud to partner with them. The goal of the Fox Raceway is not only to elevate the track experience, it's also to support and grow the entire core motocross community.

In addition to six beginner to pro-level motocross tracks, Fox Raceway has an all-new covered patio area, a fully stocked retail store complete with product demo and jersey printing capabilities, the first "Jeff Emig's Learn To Moto" center, and a year-round schedule of consumer activations.
