Everts Wins Trentino GP

Posted on April 14, 2024

Red Bull KTM Factory rider Liam Everts threw down his first serious challenge to the 2024 MX2 World championship with victory at the circuit where he scored his first ever podium finish, Trentino in Italy.

The Belgian, who missed the opening round in Argentina, due to injury, is very much on the charge. It was Everts fourth GP victory of his career as he went 3-2 for the win. Second overall was Monster Energy Yamaha rider Thibault Benistant with 2-4 finishes and third Simon Langenfelder with 8-1 scores. Series leader Kay De Wolf scored 1-8 results for fourth overall and 38 points. A great fightback from a horrible second moto start.

Liam Everts: I didn't expect to win it, I wasn't riding the second moto that well, I was riding a bit nervous, but it looks like this place is a special venue for me. This weekend was a step in the right direction, I struggled a bit in Sardinia, Spain was okay and super cool winning here.

Championship points are now Kay de Wolf 213 points, Simon Laengenfelder 187pts, Thibault Benistant 148pts, Lucas Coenen 147pts, Andrea Adamo 139pts.

Langenfelder led the second MX2 moto from Bonacorsi, Everts, Haarup, Chamberts, Oliver, McLellan, Benistant, Karssmakers, and Tuani. Lucas Coenen was 11th and a big crash on turn one with Sasha Coenen 29th, De Wolf second last, with Elzinga last. De Wolf up to 23rd place on lap one and Sasha Coenen into 16th.

After two laps the lead by Langenfelder was three seconds over Bonacorsi, with Everts right behind the Italian, then Haarup, Benistant, Oliver, McLellan, Adamo, Lucas Coenen, Chambers in 10th. Sasha Coenen was 14th and De Wolf 17th.

Everts all over Bonacorsi for second place and looking very confident. De Wolf up to 14th place just behind Sasha Coenen. Adamo was pushing hard to get past McLellan and did so on lap five. De Wolf moved into 13th place with a pass on Sasha Coenen and the lead by Langenfelder was now 5.1 seconds. Everts a further second back from Bonacorsi.

On lap five the top ten was Langenfelder, Bonacorsi, Everts, Haarup, Benistant, Oliver, Adamo, McLellan, Lucas Coenen, Chambers in 10th. Everts again all over Bonacorsi for second place. Everts into second and de Wolf up to 11th place and hunting a podium finish.

The gap between Langengelder and Everts was six seconds on lap six and then nearly eight a lap later. De Wolf moved past Chambers for 10th place, but some 10 seconds off ninth placed rider Lucas Coenen. On lap eight it was Langenfelder, Everts, Bonacorsi, Haarup, Benistant, Adamo, McLellan, Oliver, Lucas Coenen and De Wolf. Sasha Coenen moved into 13th place.

Lap nine and the lead by Langenfelder over Everts was 10 seconds, Bonacorsi held onto third place, then came Haarup, Benistant, Adamo, McLellan, Lucas Coenen, Oliver, de Wolf in 10th. De Wolf into ninth position on lap 11.

Benistant moved past Haarup for fourth place to try and keep his name on the podium at the end of the day. On lap 12 it was Langenfelder, Everts, Bonacorsi, Benistant, Haarup, Adamo, McLellan, Lucas Coenen, de Wolf and Oliver 10th.

De Wolf slid off lost any chance of making the podium, then his team-mate Coenen also crashed, handing de Wolf a position on the track. Langenfelder won the moto and Everts the Grand Prix. For De Wolf the damage wasn't too bad as some of his main rivals for the points race also struggled somewhat.
