Vialle Victorious in Lommel

Posted on October 18, 2020

Marching to an MX2 World championship Tom Vialle has ridden a very smart MXGP of Lommel as he scored 2-2 results for a Grand Prix victory. The Frenchman extended his championship points lead slightly but showed again what a cool competitor he is with championship pressure rising in these final six rounds. Monster Energy Yamaha rider Jago Geerts was second overall with 4-1 and third his team-mate Ben Watson with 1-5.

“It was really good the second moto,” Vialle said. “I enjoyed the track, and Jago was pushing and I followed his lines, and I tried to push at the end, but couldn’t get it. It is my first win in this sand, so I am really happy.”

Vialle led the second MX2 moto from Geerts, Renaux, Watson, Van De Moosdijk, Olsen, Beaton, Malkiewicz, Genot and Lesiardo in 10th. Geerts all over Vialle for the lead and Watson close in third place. As always wild mayhem in the opening lap as riders charge. Renaux into third place and chasing Watson crashed out of fourth and back in seventh.

Three laps and the lead was two seconds between Vialle and Geerts, with Renaux third, then Olsen, Van De Moosdijk, Beaton, Watson, Mewse, Ostlund, and Malkiewicz. Two Aussies and two Brits in the top ten!! Renaux into problems as Olsen and Van De Moosdijk go past and Geerts started to close up the lead from Vialle, as just a second split the two.

Geerts into the lead and again handing the lead to Geerts, but is it just race strategy by the Frenchman? Six laps in and Vialle sitting on the back wheel of Geerts and Olsen five seconds back in third place, then Van De Moosdijk, Renaux, Beaton, Watson, Mewse, Ostlund, and Gifting in 10th.

Eight laps and Geerts has extended his lead to 2.1 seconds, and they had skipped away from Olsen who was miles back, and then came Van De Moosdijk, while Renaux, Beaton and Watson were in a nice battle for fifth place. Mewse, Ostlund and Gifting rounded out the top ten.

Van De Moosdijk moved into third place on lap nine and Vialle started closing up on Geerts again. Watson up to fourth place and Olsen all over Van De Moosdijk. A lot happening as the moto gets to its climax.

With four laps to go Vialle was once again all over Geerts for the lead, and Watson was closing up on both Van De Moosdijk and Olsen. Podium places up for grabs and everyone pushing hard now. After 11 laps it was Geerts, Vialle, Van De Moosdijk, Olsen, Watson, Renaux, Beaton, Mewse, Gifting and Vaessen in 10th.

Vialle started pushing again and was all over Geerts with two laps to go. Geerts get the moto win, and Vialle second in the moto gets the GP victory. Third was Van De Moosdijk, then Olsen and Watson.
