AMA On Lawrence Penalty
The American Motorcyclist Association’s Mike Pelletier gave his comment on the penalty to Jett Lawrence in moto one for jumping the gate and being dropped from third place at the end of the moto, to 17th place. Seriously, seems a pretty unfair rule for actually getting a bad start. There was no advantage for Lawrence for hitting the start gate.
Mike Pelletier: Actually, that is a set penalty in the rule book and jumping the gate is a one lap penalty. When you see Jett, when he hits the gate, he is in front of the field. He left in front of the field before he did. This rule has been around a long time. Everyone is aware (of this rule).
The younger of the Lawrence brothers, still has a large points lead and you have to think he will still be okay for another AMA championship as we head into Unadilla for the next round.
