The AUS-X Open was established in 2015 as the finale of the Australian Supercross Championship. After a hiatus in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it returned in 2022 and has since featured some of the sport's biggest names, including the Lawrence brothers.

Current AMA supercross champion, Cooper Webb will race this year and knows that he has his hands full with the two Lawrence brothers in the field. The three-time AMA supercross champion and one time AMA 250 Motocross champion is one of the biggest names in the sports history and his involvement brings huge value to the event.

“To come here and race the new Australian heroes,” Webb said. “I have raced Chad, its pretty cool I get to race some of the best riders ever. The Lawrence brothers are the heavy favourites, and I am sure Jett after his crash in Paris wants some redemption. They will be fired up. I am in a good spot and riding well and I will try and race these guys.”

The first event took place in Sydney (as the AUS-X Open) and later in Melbourne (as the AUS-X Open), as mentioned above, before pausing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has since evolved into the AUS-X Open Supercross Championship, which is part of the Australian Supercross Championship.

In the opener in 2015 Chad Reed won the first main event (Saturday) at the 2015 AUS-X Open but finished second to Cooper Webb in the second main event (Sunday). The win on Saturday was a popular victory for the Australian fans at the Sydney event.

Chad Reed clean-swept the 2016 AUS-X Open, winning both the Saturday and Sunday main events in Sydney. He overcame a mid-race challenge from Justin Brayton on Saturday to take the victory and secure the championship lead. On Sunday, Reed defeated Cooper Webb to win his second night in a row. Saturday main event.

“It feels awesome to win the two nights here at the AUS-X Open. I felt good all weekend, and having the crowd on my side as much as they were was absolutely awesome”, commented Reed. “I love this event, and I’m all for coming down to Australia – so hopefully we can get back here next year”, concluded Reed."

Reed won the first main event, taking the lead late in the race to pass Justin Brayton. His win on Saturday was crucial in the championship race, while Brayton ultimately secured the 2016 SX1 championship title.
