Aussie MX - Opener
Wonthaggi’s lofty status as the opening round in the Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX) will continue in 2026, with the spectacular Victorian track to kick off the season on March 21-22.
Thanks to continued support from Bass Coast Shire Council, 2026 will mark the sixth successive year that Wonthaggi will host the ProMX opener, with the extended two-day weekend format to again feature an additional racing category.
Wonthaggi is a blue-chip round in the ProMX Championship not just because of its challenging layout but also the picturesque surrounds and wide-ranging hospitality and service options across the region.

The anticipation at Wonthaggi will again be heightened as another new season of ProMX commences, with all riders – some on new bikes and in new surroundings – starting from a blank canvas as the race to become an Aussie motocross champion begins in earnest.
And that means battle lines will be drawn from the very first practice session on Saturday as riders look to burst out of the blocks with strong results.
Once again, the highly experienced Dandenong Motorcycle Club will host and support the ProMX opener, which will be the start of an eight-round 2026 championship that will conclude in early August.
Further announcements on venues and class compositions at each round will be made in coming weeks.
Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle: “We’re again delighted to be beginning a new ProMX season in Wonthaggi, at a track that delivers perennially exciting racing in a beautiful part of Victoria. Thanks to Bass Coast Shire Council for its tireless support of the ProMX round in Wonthaggi, an enduring partnership that helps us deliver a world-class event to the region. The Bass Coast region also produces some exceptional motocross talent, including Kyle Webster who has been an integral part of Australia’s FIM Motocross of Nations-winning teams over the last two years. We’d love to see not only Bass Coast people converge on Wonthaggi to support the home-shire hero as he begins the defence of the MX1 title but also welcome visitors from other parts of Victoria and interstate. It’s going to be an electric weekend of racing to kick off another season for Australia’s premier motocross series."
Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead: We couldn’t be more thrilled that Wonthaggi has the honour of hosting the ProMX opener for the sixth year in a row. We’re incredibly proud to again partner with Motorcycling Australia to bring this world-class championship back to Wonthaggi. The Wonthaggi motocross track is the perfect stage for elite motocross, and it’s fantastic to see major events choosing our region year after year. We can’t wait to welcome competitors, teams and fans to experience the excitement of race day — and everything our amazing Bass Coast has to offer. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, I encourage you to come along, feel the atmosphere and be part of this huge weekend.”
