Aussies Lead Into Moto 3
Australia are just time away from defending their Chamberlain trophy with Hunter Lawrence winning the Open/MX2 moto and the Aussies with 1-1-13 results if they throw-away their worst result (15th from Webster in the opening moto). Team USA with 4-7-10 (an 11th throw-away) off the pace of the Aussies in the scoring, but still an outside chance with one moto remaining. France also showing strong results with 5-5-9 with their worst result thrown away (14th by Valin in moto two).
Hunter Lawrence: I had two (bad moments) and a pretty bad ride, pretty sloppy. Got caught the track is very slippery and now time for the next one.
Open/MX2 Moto
Hunter Lawrence led into the first corner, but then Pancar passed and Lawrence regained the lead, then Guillod, Dos Santos, Everts, Durow, Shimoa, Renaux, Bonacorsi, Hampshire, Lorurcio, Spies, Jonass, Fredsoe, Kullas 15th. De Wolf 16th, and Webster again in trouble with a first corner crash in 30th place, just behind Sasha Coenen, who is also struggling.
Lawrence already 4.7 ahead with Pancar and Guillod in second and third still, but leading AMA riders coming through, with Shimoda fourth and Hampshire fifth, then Everts, Renaux, Santos, Bonacorsi and Spies 10th. Vlaanderen 12th and Cooper 13th, just ahead of De Wolf. Webster up to 21st place and Coenen in 33rd.
Lap three and the lead by Lawrence was 5.7 ahead of Pancar, with Guillod third, then Hampshire, Shimoda, both passed the riders from Switzerland, and Cooper now ninth and Team USA looking likely to extend their points lead with 3-9 in this moto. The French with Renaux in seventh and Valin in 16th place, so the Americans gapping the French for the points lead.
De Wolf passed Cooper as the top MX2 rider and Vlaanderen in 12th position, but with Coldenhoff out, the Dutch will not be making the podium this weekend. Valin into 15th place as he passed Adamo, and Webster now 18th. Hampshire all over Pancar and team USA looking very strong with their very consistent riders.
Australia with this MX2 result as a throw-away, and 1-1 from the Lawrence brothers actually take the points lead, with Websters 15th in moto one they are 17 points. Lawrence a crash, but still a 10 second lead over Hampshire with Shimoda third, but then Hampshire makes a mistake and was suddenly sixth. This is all helping the Aussies.
On lap seven it was Lawrence, Shimoda, Pancar, Everts, Hampshire, Renaux, Bonacorsi, Guillod, de Wolf and Vlaanderen. Webster in 16th and closing up on Valin, Adamo and Garcia. Lap nine it was Lawrence with a 10 second lead over Shimoda, Pancar, Everts, Hampshire, Renaux, Bonacorsi, de Wolf, Vlaanderen, Cooper, Jonass, Adamo, Garcia, Valin and Webster 15th.
Australia’s total results at this stage with a throwaway are on 17 points, with America on 18th with their thrown away, France losing ground now with Valins current 15th their throwaway and 20 points for them. With the two Lawrence brothers together in the third moto, how can you bet against them? Australia best three scores are at this stage 1-1-13, USA 4-4-10 and France 5-9-6.
Hampshire another crash and Everts moved past. On lap 12 it was Lawrence, Shimoda, Pancar, Hampshire, Everts, Renaux, Bonacorsi, de Wolf, Vlaanderen, Cooper, Jonass, Adamo, Garcia (who has a penalty and loses some places) and Webster. Lawrence another crash and his lead was just four seconds over Shimoda. Hampshire another crash and dropped to seventh place and really costing Team USA a possibly victory. Lawrence wins it from Shimoda and Pancar.
