Aussies Successful Defence
Team Australia, led by Hunter and Jett Lawrence and with strong support by unlucky Kyle Webste have defended their Chamberlain trophy to become a two-time winner of the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations.
Hunter Lawrence wins the Open class with 1-1 performances and brother Jett won the MXGP class with 1-3 scores. MX2 winner was Kay de Wolf with 8-8. The Aussies won with 19 points, with America second overall with 33 points and Team France third, also on 33pts.
Hunter Lawrence: I am lost for words right now, come talk to me later. I am a little tired, Kyle rode his heart out, Jett unreal first moto. Australia, we did it baby, back to back.
MXGP/Open Moto
Shimoda with the lead in the final moto, with both Lawrence brothers inside the top five. Hunter third and Jett fourth. Top ten was Shimoda, Hunter Lawrence, Coenen, Everts, Febvre, Fernandez, Bonacorsi, Tomac, Guillod, and Renaux 10th and Jett Lawrence back in 14th spot. Hampshire 15th, so the Aussies still leading USA. French riders sixth and 10th.
Hunter into the lead and Coenen into second as they relegate Shimoda to third, and Jett Lawrence into 11th and Hampshire 13th. Tomac up to fifth position with the quickest lap of the moto. Coenen all over Hunter Lawrence for the lead and the Belgian wanting to show his full potential today.
Hampshire another crash and back in 22nd place and without doubt costing Team USA a podium finish. Jett Lawrence into 10th and the Aussies in complete control of their own destiny. Tomac into fourth place with a pass on Everts and Vlaanderen seemingly out of the moto.
Jett Lawrence into ninth and Hunter now a second ahead of Coenen as Jett lines up Gajser as those two battle for eight place. On lap four the top ten was Hunter Lawrence, Coenen, Shimoda, Tomac, Everts, Febvre, Fernandez, Gajser, Lawrence and Renaux.
Fernandez a big crash and dropping out of seventh place and helping Jett Lawrence into eight place and more help for the Aussies. What a sensational top ten with Hunter Lawrence, Coenen, Shimoda, Tomac, Everts, Febvre, Lawrence, Gajser, Renaux and Gifting. Hampshire 22nd and continuing his struggle with this event.
Jett Lawrence past Gajser and onto Febvre, with Everts not that far ahead. Aussies in complete control of their own victory. Lap seven the lead by Hunter Lawrence over Coenen was 2.1 seconds, with Shimoda 4.8 behind.
Coenen a crash and out of second place and AMA riders first, second and third with Hunter Lawrence, Shimoda and Tomac. Oh, this has a slight Budds Creek feel from 2007. Jett Lawrence into fifth place and we are going to have the top four being AMA once Lawrence also passes Everts. Coenen now in ninth place.
Tomac into second place and on lap 10 it was Hunter Lawrence, Tomac, Shimoda, Everts, Lawrence, Febvre, Gajser, Renaux, Gifting and Coenen. Lawrence into fourth place with a pass on Everts and this moto belongs to the AMA riders. Three former MX2 world champions, Roczen, Cairoli and Jonass in 13th, 14th and 15th.
Hampshire out of the moto and Jett Lawrence into third place and the Lawrence brothers looking brilliant. Can Jett get Tomac for second and make it a bit of an old Team USA story from 1986, 1996 or 2007. There is no doubt, Australian motocross owns the world at the moment.
Febvre giving the Grand Prix riders some respect as he battles Shimoda for fourth place, but then Gajser into fourth and Febvre now fifth, with Shimoda sixth. Hunter wins the moto from Tomac and brother Jett, and Team Australia are once again the MXoN champions.
