Aussies To Dominate - MXoN

There is no doubt, every single AMA and FIM racer, will be trying to stop sensational Aussie, Jett Lawrence this weekend at the Ironman circuit, which will run the 2025 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations.

Now, we saw last year, that Tim Gajser could do it, but the Slovenian, who will be making his final appearance on the HRC team isn’t fully recovered from his injuries this year and isn’t in full form. The rider many have called the fastest man on the planet, Jeffrey Herlings isn’t racing the event, despite being in blistering form, and of course, Romain Febvre has mentioned he isn’t that excited for the event, and might be on a little downer after celebrating his second world motocross championship in Australia two weeks ago.

Lucas Coenen, who is also in stunning form could be the man to do some damage to the Aussies defence of the Chamberlain trophy, but having never ridden Ironman before, he will be under a disadvantage to the Aussie brothers. It has been shown throughout 2025, that Eli Tomac cannot beat Lawrence and it’s hard to see anyone else capable of doing it in my opinion. Would I love Grand Prix runner-up Coenen to go 1-1, definitely and despite being an Aussie, I have lived in Europe for 32 years and am 100% a fan of Grand Prix motocross.

Even last years victory by the Aussie, didn’t really excite me, like the first ever Dutch win in 2019 and hearing the Dutch national anthem brought me to tears, while due to the horrible Wi-Fi at Matterley Basin last year, I did my report from the comfort of my hotel in Winchester. Saturday the Wi-Fi hardly worked and obviously, running a website with no Wi-Fi, just wasn’t an option, so I didn’t even get to see the Aussies celebrate.

As somebody who has seen the Australian MXdN assault since their first appearance in 1984, and having attended the MXdN since 1987, it was a tough blow, but I managed. I won’t even be at Ironman this weekend, as I write this column from my hotel room in sunny Manly, in Sydney, Australia, as I give myself a well-deserved holiday of visiting family and friends.

I did however celebrate the Aussie GP two weeks ago, with huge pride being an Australia and our coverage blew the doors of the coverage of any other website in the world, and I am proud, that at the age of 64, I can still pull out all stops on the odd occasion.

Back to Ironman though, I seriously think, as do most people, that Australia has a successful defence of their Chamberlain trophy, and I will not be surprised if Jett goes 1-1 and Hunter 1-2, similar to the golden era of Team USA. Kyle Webster, I think is good for top five in the MX2 class, and maybe a 10-12 score is possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if he even finishes top three in the class and goes 7-9. He is that good, just needs the confidence to pull it off.

I think Belgium finish second overall, with Lucas Coenen doing a couple of top three results, Sasha riding sensibly and finishing top three in MX2 and Liam Everts maybe going a couple of handy top ten finishes, maybe 5-7. Team USA should still make the podium, Tomac possibly 4-4, Hampshire 6-8 and Cooper 6-10.

The Dutch will also be in it, with Coldenhoff, Vlaanderen and de Wolf all loving the Ironman circuit, I have them finishing close with USA and Belgium, but maybe fourth place. Coldenhoff is hunting a ride in America in 2026, and we know he is a Nations rider. Would not be surprised if he went 5-6 and Vlaanderen 6-9. De Wolf for me wins the MX2 class, beating Jo Shimoda, Sasha Coenen, Simon Langenfelder and Justin Cooper.

Lets hope the Ironman crowd don't do what the Ryder Cup golf crowd did last week and celebrate our sport as it should be celebrated and make American sporting crowds great again.....Chanting USA, USA, USA, as tough as it is to listen to for most of the rest of the world is okay, but respect the sportsmen, because this is the toughest sport in the world and everyone puts in 100% for our entertainment.

MXlarge will be doing a full coverage of the event and have men on the ground in USA, as good as possible being that we are on holidays. Gotta head off now, family waiting down at reception as I head out into the sun and enjoy my day at the beautiful Manly beach.
