The opening round of the 2026 MXGP and MX2 championship will be run in just over two weeks time, and the circuit of Bariloche is very much looking like a tough opener. We found this video on youtube and a news story from the Bariloche news source.

The event's general production coordinator, Ivo Bozic, provided details on the progress of the work and stated: “Fortunately, things are going very well. We've finished building the circuit. The circuit is ready, and what we're doing now is preparing the area for the paddock, where all the pit boxes will be located. After that, we'll set up the food area and the marketing area, with all the brands that will be setting up their tents.”

He explained that the work continued with watering the ground and beginning the installation of the perimeter security fencing. “Yesterday we started watering, and tomorrow we'll begin installing the security fencing around the circuit,” he noted.

Bozic also addressed the choice of location for the World Championship and detailed the reasons that led to ruling out other options. “It happened because mathematically, we didn't have enough time to do it at the waterfall. We were missing key permits, and calculating the available time, it was a mistake to try to do it there, for many reasons: the vegetation and a completely different terrain,” he explained. In that context, he highlighted the characteristics of the chosen site: “We came to the steppe, and the steppe gifted us a natural amphitheater that will truly surprise everyone.”

The event has already begun to generate excitement in the local community and among motocross fans. “There are a lot of enthusiastic people, and there are also people who are giving their opinions without seeing or knowing anything about it. It's a place that surprised us all. The steppe has its charm, and in this setting, from any point on the circuit, you can see the entire mountain range and the visual depth of the steppe,” the coordinator stated.

The epicenter of the competition will be the Bariloche MX Race Track, an 1,800-meter-long circuit with 21 turns and a counterclockwise direction, designed by the Spanish specialist Gabriel Villada. The track features a 25-meter elevation change between its highest and lowest points, a sandy surface, and a combination of jumps, rollers, and naturally sloped corners that make it a technical and demanding circuit.

Eighty riders from the MXGP and MX2 categories will compete on this track, the latter for riders under 23 years old, at the Argentine round. The circuit will also include a spectator village with food options and brand booths, in keeping with the championship's usual format.

Regarding the design and visibility for spectators, Bozic emphasized that the circuit was designed to enhance the spectator experience. “That's the most important thing about this place. From wherever you are, I'd say you can see 90% of the event. It doesn't matter if you're up high or down low, it's very good,” he stated.

Work continued daily with adjustments and details related to the overall setup of the venue, including VIP areas and separate parking zones. Regarding the magnitude of the event, the coordinator emphasized: "We are already trying to promote it because it will truly be the most important event I know of in Patagonia."
