Brad Anderson is very much one of the true characters of the sport in the UK. A two-time British Motocross champion and three-time European Motocross champion, not to mention he represented his country in the MXoN in America.

Always a friendly guy and one of the toughest the sport has seen, Anderson will line up at the Farleigh Castle held WorldVetsMotocross.com event and is excited to be involved in an event that is very much the true old school style, or a barby, a beer and some racing. We gave Ando a call and asked him about the event and some stuff about his career. On his 44th birthday and all.

MXLarge: Just tell me, you had a great career, British championships, European championships, represented your country at the Motocross of Nations. What were the highlights for you Brad?

Anderson: It is so hard to say. I mean, there were a lot, and I would say riding for your country is the highlight. In Colorado in 2010 I finished third overall in the Open group and we were one point off a podium in America. My two British championships and three European championships, not many have done that. I won in 2009 and 2011 and then the Euro championships. I raced in Australia, and I was a bit unlucky, I was just getting my feet warm, and I was one point off third in that championship.

MXlarge: Motocross racers love racing, but its change for your age and this World Vets are Farleigh is a nice race to be involved in. How often do you race now?

Anderson: I don’t race as much anymore, but this year I am wanting to race more, and I have my Farleigh bike ready, and I am putting more time on it, to hopefully do the business. I didn’t do that much on the bike, and I have done some races in the past on old bikes, but I have gone back to my roots and riding more and staying fit.

MXLarge: Racing for championships is fun, but I figure there is a lot of pressure, while now, you just face for fun. Is that nicer, now that your serious career is over?

Anderson: Yep, and there is no pressure now and it is all for fun, but I still want to win. When you are professional you have to do your job and I still want to win, but it doesn’t really matter if you finish second or third anymore.

MXlarge: The World Vets Motocross event is really a fun event, not so serious as far as results and stuff. What do you like about the event?

Anderson: As you said, it is more fun and back in the old days, with beer tents and bands and you can enjoy it more. The whole family atmosphere and this one is more relaxed, have a couple of drinks and talk to everyone.

MXlarge: You must have done some British championship rounds at Farleigh?

Anderson: Yes, I have had some success there too, some wins. It is an old school track and with my age, I am used to old school. Its fast and I really enjoy it. I have done some winning there and each time we go, it has changed a little and I enjoy that.

MXLarge: What class will you race, and will you do the team event there?

Anderson: Yes, I will do the team event, and I will be racing my 2002 Yamaha 250 and in my age group. I am 44 today and I will be in that class. It is a competitive class, with some good riders, so many of the guys who raced in my era and then the American guys, like Mike Brown and he is over 50, but he can do any class and when we get together, it’s really good racing. The team event will be hard, because a lot of those guys, like Kurt Nicoll, Mike Brown, they race a lot and are still really fast.

MXlarge: What is it like racing those guys?

Anderson: To be fair, Kurt is amazing for his age, and he must ride a lot in America. I don’t see much of them, and I see Mike somethings, but I am now finding it hard to fit racing in sometimes, as my son races, but this event, I am excited to be there again.

MXlarge: I can imagine you will have some beers at Farleigh and have a chat with everyone?

Anderson: Yes, it is so nice to have a few beers, talk to all the riders, the mechanics about the bikes and having a crack. When you raced professional, it was just racing and going to the hotel, but now we can have a drink, a laugh and a lot of talking with people you know in the industry and fans.
