British Champions at Farleigh
Four former British champions and Grand Prix racers will line-up at the World Vets Motocross, at Farleigh Castle on 18th to 20th of July. Kurt Nicoll, Rob Herring, Justin Morris and Brad Anderson have taken British titles in their careers and all four made their mark on British Motocross. Now, they will all be involved in this huge veteran’s event.
For those lucky enough to attend this event, all three former racers will be available for a chat, and its even possible to line-up on the start line with some of these former racers. Below is what they are thinking leading into July 18, 19 and 20.
Kurt Nicoll: The one at Farleigh, the World Vets is more a family feel to it. I am 60 years old, and I don’t want to race younger riders, I want to race people my own age generally. I definitely look forward to racing people from my era. It is just a really enjoyable weekend, chatting with old friends and getting to also race around a famous circuit like Farleigh. I love it. Farleigh was the first GP race that I won, and I always did well at Farleigh. I love going back there. It is one of the iconic tracks. A track like that will never be used for a Grand Prix again, because things have moved on. It is nice to look back at old tracks like that, like Namur, Wohlen, Payerne and those places are gone, and Farleigh still remains. I think it is fantastic that we can all get together at a place like Farleigh Castle and reminisce and still be able to love what we are doing.
Rob Herring: Its brilliant. I did the World vets and it’s such a nice atmosphere and just watching is really fun. The run the modern bikes and the old bikes and watching Doug Henry racing, which was for the highlight of the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Its modern bikes and I don’t want to ride the old bikes anymore. I raced my 500 last year and it destroyed me. My back cannot cope anymore with the old bikes. I am in the over 50’s with Dobber, Emig and all the bigger boys. I am looking forward to it. I raced British championships there, but never a GP, because it was always Foxhill. What a great track Farleigh is, a legendary track.
Justin Morris: I definitely drink beer, and it will be a nice time. What is great about catching up with older riders, we only knew each other on a professional side and now you get to see riders on a different side. We would touch bases, but it was never over a beer, and I am looking forward to chatting with guys like Kurt (Nicoll), Rob (Herring) or some of the others. It still kept its heritage, and it is what it is. They didn’t try and make it a modern-day racetrack, and that is not like, for instance Hawkstone Park, which has moved with the times and lost a bit of itself. Farleigh is the same circuit that Dave Thorpe rode around there in the 1980s. It is close to my place, so I grew up on circuits like Farleigh. Grass field kind of feel and I love to see that. It is a task riding a bike around it and the slippery conditions and it is an amazing circuit and holds a lot of memories for myself, watching Dave Thorpe winning there, when I was a young child. Just being in awe of 100.000 people at Farleigh Castle. I am looking forward to getting back there.
Brad Anderson: Yes, it is so nice to have a few beers, talk to all the riders, the mechanics about the bikes and having a crack. When you raced professional, it was just racing and going to the hotel, but now we can have a drink, a laugh and a lot of talking with people you know in the industry and fans.
