Just like last year, the season will get underway in Argentina in 2025. But the beautiful location in Villa la Angostura - between lakes and mountains - has been exchanged for a brand-new course in Cordoba, Argentina's second largest city. Before the starting gate drops for the first time, Yamaha present their riders with a few questions. Calvin Vlaanderen is the first to start today.

Q: You seemed to be on your way to the top 5 in the World in 2024 but then had to deal with a knee injury. How is that knee now?

Vlaanderen: Initially, we thought it wasn't so bad that only the meniscus had been hit. But it turned out to be a lot worse. I had to undergo two operations. Fortunately, the rehabilitation went very well. The knee is fine again. In January I was back on the bike.

Q: So, you are in top shape at the start of this World Championship assault?

Vlaanderen: I'm not 100 percent the same as I used to be, but I'm already close to it. My condition is better than at the same time last season, when I was with m with my shoulder. From January I was able to train really well. I have put in a lot of hours on the bike. I feel fine, really looking forward to the first GP.

Q: You have driven two preparation races. What did you learn from that?

Vlaanderen: Normally I would have ridden three races, but the race in Sommières last weekend literally and figuratively fell into the water. Fortunately, I already had two races in my legs. Ideal for gaining some match rhythm. To get to know the bike better too. I am happy with where I am now. Although I know that I can go even faster and better.

Q: What ambition do you start this World Championship campaign with?

Vlaanderen: I want to fight at the front every GP, go for the podium. In 2024 I managed to do that twice (in the two GPs in Indonesia). But I want more. Maybe get another win. If I can start well, that's certainly possible.

Q: The World Championships start on a brand-new course. Is it okay?

Vlaanderen: I have only seen some photos. The job looked good you a new circuits indeed. For everyone. I like that. I am someone who can read a new course quickly. So that must be an advantage. It would also be a sandy surface. Nice, I like that too.

Q: Flash forward to the end of September. Calvin Vlaanderen is a satisfied man when...

Vlaanderen: I have stayed healthy for a year, finish every GP in the top 10 and finish the World Championship in the top five.
