Coenen Back For Arnhem

Great news for this weekends MXGP of The Netherlands is the fact former series leader, Lucas Coenen is back. The Belgian, who had led the MXGP championship points by nearly 70 points before picking up an injury at the British GP at Foxhill, will return this weekend.

Coenen had gone 1-1-1 at the previous Grand Prix in South Africa, before flying to America to race a round of the AMA Nationals, where he crashed out and DNS the second race at the Southwick circuit. Many felt that might have started his rollercoaster experience in England, and cost him a world title.

Despite not feeling 100%, the very talented rider will line up in Arnhem and try and get some bike time before the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations, an event that is probably now on the top of his major goals for 2026.

Team Belgium have a great chance of winning, with the Coenen brothers and Liam Everts maybe even early favourites for the race at the Ernee circuit in France in October.

It is not known if Coenen will still travel to American for the final round of that series, as his original goal was to race the final round in Ironman. Having missed four GPs due to his injury, the Red Bull KTM factory rider is more than capable of pulling a surprise this weekend in Arnhem, as his sand skills are second to none, but that would be a tough task, considering his race condition won't be great.

Down in fourth place in the MXGP championship points, he is still capable of passing Tim Gajser, who is nine points ahead of Coenen in the standings and holds third place in the points. While a world championship seems unlikely, due to the fact he is 169 points behind series leader, Jeffrey Herlings with only 240 points available with four rounds remaining.

Lets hope the Belgian can score major points this weekend and continue to show us all what a talent he is, before he makes the full time change to racing the AMA series in America.
