MXGP points leader, Lucas Coenen of the De Carli Red Bull KTM factory effort, really put his sword into the hearts of his competition with a magnificent 1-1 performance around the tough, tight and tricky circuit in Germany today.

With rain, mud, sunshine and everything else, the 19-year-old extended his points lead in the world title and goes to Latvia next week with a whole lot of confidence and a 31 points advantage over Jeffrey Herlings.

The biggest rival for Coenen in the championship, HRC factory rider, Jeffrey Herlings scored a very unpopular DNF-2 result after mechanical issues in the opening moto saw him score zero points in the opener. For "The Bullet", this GP is going to hurt and might even be a championship losing performance.

Championship points are now Lucas Coenen 344 points, Jeffrey Herlings 313pts, Romain Febvre 263pts, Tim Gajser 256pts and Maxime Renaux 251pts.

Lucas Coenen: It felt easy out there, but the lappers were difficilt and I stressed out as Jeffrey was coming. It is so cool and my brother nearly won, but I have the red plate and my brother too. Its just for today, as we have another race next weekend. This one is for Thibault (Benistant), this one is for you and I love you. I was thinking about him all weekend.

Andrea Adamo: It was an amazing weekend, my first MXGP podium. After the first moto and the crash with Ruben, I pushed hard in the second moto and kepy Romain behind.

Ruben Fernandez: Last one was in China last year and I am happy to get on the box, but still, I felt like I missed something and I look forward to feeling better on the bike. On this track, the way it is, you have to go for the space. I guess Kay saw the chance and we both crashed, but that is part of racing. It could have been better.

MXGP Moto Two

The rain had stopped and the track much friendlier for the MXGP riders, as Coenen, like his brother owned the first corner. Herlings in second and Adamo also up front, with Febvre behind Adamo. Top ten was suddenly Adamo, Coenen, Febvre, Herlings, Horgmo, Fernandez, de Wolf Renaux and Oliver. Gajser down and well back in the pack, as Herlings moved into third place.

Coenen back into the lead and Herlings surely going to work his way into second and go after the Belgian. Herlings into second as the top ten on lap one was Coenen, Herlings, Adamo, Febvre, Fernandez, Horgmo, de Wolf, Renaux, Oliver and Bonacorsi 10th.

Lap three the lead by Coenen over Herlings was 2.4 seconds, then came Adamo, some 4.6 back, followed by Febvre, Fernandez, de Wolf, Horgmo, Renaux, Oliver and Bonacorsi. Not a lot happening in this second MXGP race as Coenen remained around 3.3 over Herlings, with Adamo 5.5 back, and Febvre eight seconds back. Some more rain as the track will again get slippery.

Lap five and the lead by Coenen was 4.5 and the youngster looking likely to get a beautiful 1-1 today. Lap seven the top ten was Coenen, Herlings, Adamo, Febvre, Fernandez, de Wolf, Horgmo, Renaux, Oliver and Bonacorsi still 10th.

Lap nine the lead by Coenen was more than five seconds over Herlings, with Adamo 11 seconds back, then Febvre, Fernandez, de Wolf, Horgmo, Renaux, Bonacorsi and Oliver 10th.

10 minutes to go and its usually go time for Herlings, but the Belgian youngster seems to also have late race speed. Sure enough, the gap opened to 6.3 seconds. Gajser running around in 21st place, a sad situation for the five time world champion.

Fernandez and de Wolf had a coming together, with both going down and that made the top ten Coenen, Herlings, Adamo, Febvre, de Wolf, Renaux, Fernandez, Horgmo, Bonacorsi and Forato. Coenen wins the moto from Herlings and Adamo.
