Coenen Continues to Dominate
Red Bull KTM factory rider, Lucas Coenen continues his brilliant MXGP debut season with another race win as he continues to close the points gap to both Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre. The Frenchman was second and third was Ruben Fernandez. The points gap in the championship was now
Lucas Coenen: Honestly, I was not in control, I was all over the place and not in control. I tried my best, because Febvre has a lot of experience in the mud. He passed me, but I got him back. The track was better at the end, but edges and hard to control the 450, but I am learning every step of the way.
Febvre now has the red plate with the championship points now Romain Febvre 308 points, Tim Gajser 305pts, Lucas Coenen 262pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 240pts and Maxime Renaux 205pts.
MXGP Moto One
Lucas Coenen with the holeshot in the MXGP race one, followed by Febvre, Fernandez, Bogers, Guadagnini, Jonass, Vlaanderen, Seewer, Brumann, Herlings in 10th. Herlings quickly into ninth and Bogers moved into fourth place. Herlings then into 8th place. Coenen looking very calm and in control. This young Belgian really has some skills.
Lap two and it was Coenen, Febvre, Bogers, Fernandez, Jonass, Guadagnini, Herlings, Seewer, Vlaanderen, and Bonacorsi 10th. Lap three and Vlaanderen passed Herlings and Coldenhoff up to 15th after an early crash.
Coenen still led on lap five, but Febvre slowly catching the Belgian, then Bogers some 7.5 seconds back and Herlings dropped to ninth spot, his return slowly gaining momentum. On lap five the top ten was Coenen, Febvre, Bogers, Fernandez, Jonass, Guadagnini, Vlaanderen, Bonacorsi, Renaux, Horgmo and Herlings 11th.
Febvre into the lead, but Coenen fought back to regain the front spot. This might have ignited something in Coenen as he suddenly got away from the Frenchman. Either way, both these guys looking at closing the gap to red plate man Tim Gajser.
Lap nine and the top ten was Coenen, Febvre, Fernandez, Jonass, Vlaanderen, Guadagnini, Bonacorsi, Renaux, Coldenhoff and Horgmo, as Bogers crashed and popped his shoulder out and is out of the race. Herlings in 13th place and struggling big time.
Febvre fought back to climb right onto the back wheel of Coenen, but the Belgian just seems so cool and calm up front and not making too many mistakes in these tough conditions. The gap was two seconds. Fernandez was 36 seconds back in third.
Herlings moved past Seewer, who was stuck in the mud and Seewer dropped to 13th, with Herlings 12th. The lead by Coenen was 2.4 seconds with three laps remaining. Febvre again closed up on Coenen in the final two laps, but the KTM man was just simply in great control. Coenen won it from Febvre and Fernandez.
