Coenen Out of MXoN
Leading Belgian journalist, Jurgen Schrooten has confirmed that the Belgian MXoN team has had to make another change. Belgian team manager, Joël Roelants has had to replace Sasha Coenen with not fit enough to line up for the Belgians. Sasha Coenen wanted to make his comeback in the Spanish GP this weekend, but had to abandon the race after the first free practice.
Sasha Coenen: I had a big crash in Sweden and since then I have been riding just to be on the bike. After Switzerland I went to the doctor and they said it was good, and I kept riding, but I tried to ride before Turkey, and I had too much pain, it was impossible and I hoped to come back in Spain but it wasn’t possible.
Brent Van Doninck now joins the team. The rider of the Jacky Martens Honda team, who made a strong comeback after his broken thigh in early March, will compete in the MXGP or Open class.
"It's all very short notice," said Van Doninck, "Not for me, but for the team. The bike has to be prepared, but my clothing and helmet also have to be in the Belgian colours. It will be tight, but I'll make it. I'm already looking forward to it. For me it's always an honour to compete for my country."
It is still undecided which class the riders will race, apart from Van Doninck, who Schrooten mentioned will race the MXGP or Open class.
