KTM factory rider, Sasha Coenen has put together a strong performance to win the opening race of the 2026 european season. The little man from Belgium scorched through the pack after an average start to take the lead in the final stages of the opening MX2 moto.

Early leader Janis Reisulis made an error after holding the lead for most of the race to drop back to fifth place. Second and third in the moto where Ferruccio Zanchi on the Ducati and Scott Smulders.

Under beautiful sunshine, but around a very wet circuit, Janis Reisulis led the opening race of the MXGP season, followed by Zanchi, Langenfelder and Coenen. Mid race Coenen and Langfelder had a great battle, with the Belgian making a nice pass in a corner to move into third place.

Coenen then moved into second place with a pass on Zanchi and his Ducati, and the diminutive race was really looking in great form. Reisulis was making hay while the sunshined with a 5 second lead over Coenen, with Zanchi a similar mark back in third place ahead of Langenfelder.

Coenen eventually takes the lead from Reisulis, who dropped to fifth place and Langenfelder dropped from third to fourth in the last lap. A great win for the KTM man, after a mistake in the first corner cost him many positions.
