Coenen Wins MX2 Qualifier
Diminutive Sasha Coenen of the Red Bull KTM factory team has won the Saturday MX2 qualifier in Turkey today. The sizzling fast Belgian teenager pulled the holeshot and was never led. He finished ahead of defending champion Kay De Wolf, who made some nice points to close up on the points leader of Simon Langenfelder, who didn’t have a great race, to finish in sixth place.
De Wolf made up four points on Langenfelder, to make the points gap with tomorrow and two round remaining just 11 points. Simon Längenfelder 788 points, Kay de Wolf 777pts and Andrea Adamo 746 pts.
Sasha Coenen: I felt really good in this moto. Timed practice I didn't feel good, felt stiff, but now I am happy with it and looking forward to tomorrow.
MX2 Qualification race
In the opening corner, Coenen led the MX2 qualifier from De Wolf, Lata, Everts, Langenfelder, Adamo, Benistant, Farres, McLellan, and Valin 10th. After a lap it was Coenen with a four second lead over de Wolf, then Lata, Everts, Langenfelder, Farres, Adamo, McLellan, Benistant and Valin 10th.
By lap four the lead was 5.6 seconds as Coenen continued to look solid in the later part of 2025. Farres moved past Adamo and then McLellan also passed the Italian to make his championship hopes a little shorter.
Coenen extended to 7.2 seconds with De Wolf next, followed by Lata, Everts, Langenfelder, Farres, McLellan, Adamo, Benistant and Valin. Langenfelder putting all types of pressure on Everts, but de Wolf getting away from both. Farres passed Langenfelder to make the day all that much better for de Wolf.
Seven laps in, it was Coenen with a 9.2 second lead over de Wolf, then Lata, Farres, Everts, Langenfelder, McLellan, Adamo, Benistant and Valin. Farres into third as he passed Lata and now de Wolf under threat, as McLellan and Langenfelder put pressure on Everts.
Adamo and Langenfelder collide and Adamo went down. De Wolf smiling big time in second spot. Langenfelder seventh and Adamo 10th, bad day for the two KTM riders. Coenen wins it from de Wolf and Farres.
