Coenen Wins MX2 - Saturday
Sasha Coenen of the Red Bull KTM factory team, has won the MX2 qualification race, and extended his championship points lead over Simon Langenfelder, who finished third. Coenen is now five points clear of Langenfelder. Second was early leader, Valerio Lata of the HRC factory team.
Sasha Coenen: It was not an easy one. Valerio was riding well. I couldn't make the pass and then I found the right moment, but then over-jumped and I thought shit, but I made it happen.
MX2 Qualification race
Langenfelder with the lead in the MX2 qualification race. Perfect conditions for the riders as Lata, Coenen, Valin and Janis Reisulis hold the top five spots, with Farres, Karlis Reisulis, Everts, Grau and Gundersen the remaining top ten riders.
Lata and Coenen both passed Langenfelder, who is struggling to maintain the pace of the two front men. Karssemakers into the top ten as Gundersen drops out of it. Karlis Reisulis now back in 16th place and Grau back in 19th.
Lata showing great pace in the sand of Kegums. On lap three the lead by Lata over Coenen was just a handful of bike lengths, with Langenfelder more than five seconds back in third. Top ten on lap four was Lata, Coenen, Langenfelder, Valin, Janis Reisulis, Farres, Everts, McLellan, Karssemakers and Walvoort.
Coenen not letting Lata get away as on lap seven the lead was just under a second, with Langenfelder some 10 seconds back, then came Valin, Janis Reisulis, Farres, McLellan, Everts, Karssemakers and Walvoort.
Coenen into the lead and the gap was quickly 3.5 seconds as the Belgian teenagers showing why he owns the red plate. Lata was second, with Langenfelder 8.4 seconds back, then Valin, McLellan, Janis Reisulis, Everts, Karssemakers, and Walvoort. Coenen wins it from Lata and Langenfelder.
