Lucas Coenen of the Red Bull KTM factory team has won the MXGP qualification race from Kevin Horgmo and Romain Febvre. Coenen closed the points gap ever so slightly to Febvre.

Championship points are now Romain Febvre 394 points, Lucas Coenen 347pts, Tim Gajser 305pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 279pts and Ruben Fernandez 268pts.

Lucas Coenen: It was a good moto. I wasn't sure where to go on the start and I got out first and controlled it. The track was difficult and the blue flags were not enough and the lappers didn't see us coming.

Coenen led the MXGP qualifier from Horgmo, Gifting, Fernandez, Febvre, Pancar, Seewer, Renaux, Coldenhoff, Vlaanderen and Bogers. Herlings in 15th. Fernandez into third place with a pass on Gifting and then Febvre also moved past the Swede. Herlings still 15th and making no impression.

Lap two and the lead by Coenen was 1.9 seconds over Horgmo, then Fernandez 4.5 seconds back and Febvre 5.9 seconds off the leader. Gifting fifth, then Pancar, Seewer, Renaux, Coldenhoff and Vlaanderen 10th. Herlings into 13th place with a pass on Jonass and Guadagnini.

Febvre moved into third place with a pass on Fernandez and the huge hillside crowd go into a frenzy. Coenen now with a 2.8 second lead over Horgmo. Herlings into 12th place, but no other changes in the top ten. Coenen extended his lead over Horgmo to 6.2 with Febvre closing up on Horgmo for second place. Coenen wins it from Horgmo and Febvre.
