Coldenhoff to USA?
Omroep Brabant, one of the leading media in The Netherlands, has reported that veteran Dutch rider, Glenn Coldenhoff of the Fantic factory team, may be competing in his last races in the MXGP.
The 34-year-old motocross rider is in talks with a handful of European teams, but there is also interest from America to compete there. Of course it would be only for the AMA Nationals, as at 34 years of age, racing supercross is not realistic, with no experience in the indoor racing.
Coldenhoff, who is in the form of his career and looks a good bet to finish third in the World in the MXGP class spoke with Leon Voskamp from Omroep Brabant.
Glenn Coldenhoff: That country (USA) has always been a dream of mine. When I look at my physical condition, I can certainly continue for another year. I am completely motivated for each race and the results are good. I would like to continue in MXGP, but there are few seats available with most good teams.
"There are more riders in the same situation. I can also look at other teams, but I am very ambitious. The bike must be good, there must be a good team around me, and it must be financially attractive. Those three things are hard to find in Europe. f this is my last year, then so be it. There are ongoing discussions with teams in America, among others. If that opportunity arises, then I see it as a nice challenge. It’s not about supercross, where they race in stadiums. But it is about the outdoor season, as we do in Europe. I expect more clarity in the coming weeks. I’m very relaxed about it: if this is my last year, then so be it.”
"It’s one of my best seasons with five podium finishes. I’m aiming for bronze; anything above that is a very difficult story. I also believe that I can still win a GP, even though the competition is incredibly strong. If the opportunity arises, I will take it. You have to take huge risks to compete at the top. It’s my job to stay focused and perform. I prefer not to talk about injuries, but in this dangerous sport, an accident is always around the corner."
