Cooper Webb - AMA Champion 2021

Posted on May 02, 2021

Red Bull KTM Factory rider Cooper Webb is just incredible, winning the AMA supercross championship by taking victory at the final round of the 2021 title race after an early battling with main rival Ken Roczen before taking over and winning easily, both the race and the title.

Cooper Webb: It is incredible, with everything in the World going on, we just stayed the course, a lot of hard races. I want to thank the Red Bull KTM team for this year. Man, they always have my back. I want to give it up to THOR, Alpinestars, my mechanic, wife, mum and dad and everyone who made this possible. I am truly blessed, thank you.

The victory took Webb to an elite group of two time AMA supercross championship winners, which includes, James Stewart, Chad Reed, Jeff Ward and Ricky Johnson. Just above that list are Jeff Stanton and Bob Hannah with three and no doubt that is a place Webb can easily get to in 2022.

Early in the main event Chase Sexton and Ken Roczen held first and second as they held up Webb and Musquin in third and fourth and it looked like a slow motion races as the two HRC riders waited, however Webb stayed patient. It looked fore sure like they were waiting to take out the series leader, but when the chance arrived, Roczen did nothing and just let Webb pass, in fact the pass it was Webb who knocked into Roczen and slow his speed and from then on the Germany just dropped spots one by one until he finished in 10th place.

Once past Roczen, the KTM rider then closed up on leader Sexton, passed him and walked away with the race. Musquin did the same finishing in second place and Sexton scored third place.

In the championship points it was Webb on 388, Roczen on 353 and Tomac on 326. Along with his AMA 250 motocross championship from 2016 Webb is also in amongst many American legends and in fact moves into the legend status with this years SX title.

While the Lawrence brothers both finished on the podium in the East/West Shootout, Jeff Lawrence winning and Hunter finishing third, the 250 championship winners were Justin Cooper and Colt Nichols. See results below.
