Cooper Webb - Old School Racer

American veteran Cooper Webb is one of the true old school racers, much like some of the all-time greats of the past. I remember a time when all the best American races did international events all across the World, from Japan, Australia, South Africa, Italy, France, Spain, England and anywhere else it was possible.

Those were for me, the good days, when the sport was spread to all corners of the World. Cooper Webb is very much doing his thing, a constant face in Paris and he also raced in Australia when he was just a rookie. He will also, NEVER say no, if called up to represent his country at the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations.

He caught up with the World media and below is what he told them. As always, one of the most popular competitors in the sport and a breath of fresh air in an era of negative attitudes and a lack of the big picture.

MXLarge: I find it interesting that the first time you came over here to Isaac. So when you're battling a guy named Chad Reed, Australian legend. Two time champ in America now roles are reversed. You're almost 30 years old. You're the two time champ. You're racing the kids to the left. Pretty cool, huh? That's amazing how fast time goes.

Webb: Yeah, it is, man. It's like said I was 18 my first time here way race in Sydney. Racing Chad and he was the. The legend that, like he is and and two time champ. And that's almost eight years later, the kind of the roles were reversed. And we got the new Australian legends themselves so. It's great to be back. I always enjoy coming to Australia, always enjoy racing here and to to be able to race. You know, truly some of the best Australians ever produced is really cool and great for the opportunity and looking forward to having a great weekend.

MXLarge: Cooper, tell us about where a race like this fits into your preseason as we approach Anaheim 1 next year. How's it fit in and, the importance of that.

Webb: I mean, if it's perfect for me. I think it's. For the timing, it is really nice spot. You know, we've been able to train for basically a month and we get to race and obviously it helps being able to race everyone. But especially in Jett and Hunter to my left like they're they're setting the bar really high in the US, so I think for me to get those gate drops and raise them is important going into Anaheim and yeah. It just it, it works well with my program. I was able to go back when I get to the States and we have basically a six week gap to get ready for the US series. But I think. It's hard to replace these gate drops. Especially nowadays and in this stadium being as big as it is. Like it's feels like we're at another supercross in the US so it'll be awesome and super important at this stage in my career for sure and racing, not only these two, but the whole group here. You know some great riders and it's definitely going to be a like bar banging.

MXLarge: Coops, have question for you. We can get all the nice stuff out of the way now as a race tomorrow night. And we know you're a gamer. You know you're a guy that in the last laps of the race track is broken down you take the shortest lines of the track. You're very efficient as things break down and I know there's nothing more that you would probably like than to beat these guys at home?

Webb: Yeah. I mean it's, it's obviously the goal and as everybody up here, the goal is to win, right? But. Yeah, I mean, it's something where we know, how great, Jett is, but at the same time, like when I go to sleep at night, my goal is to beat them so, I think that we're in a great spot. We were able to build and get a good result in tomorrow and keep everybody on their toes for sure.
