Coty Schock - Chasing in WSX

A wet and challenging Stockholm circuit awaits the SX2 field, but Coty Schock is embracing the conditions he grew up riding, while teammate Enzo Lopes looks to keep pressure on Max Anstie.

Coty Schock was born in Dover, Delaware on the East Coast of the United States, and grew up riding technical dirt tracks that we constantly hit by rain. As World Supercross rolled into Sweden this week, the local weather has meant that the dirt delivered to the 3Arena is wet.

That will cause tricky riding conditions and present a different challenge to the bone-dry surface last week in the Gold Coast – and Schock, who is second in the SX2 championship standings to Max Anstie – is relishing it.

When asked about the track conditions, and if it suited his style, he said: “Oh, yeah, that’s my go-to. And just being an East Coast kid growing up, rain or shine, you just go ride and it is what it is.

“So, for me, I thrive in these conditions. Hard pack, I don’t really strive on that. I lived out in California for three years. I got kind of good at it, but not enough. But, yeah, I definitely thrive more on these conditions.

“I’m really looking forward to it. And it slows the pace down a little bit and you have to be a little bit more methodical and strategic. So, yeah, I just love East Coast conditions and this reminds me of Indianapolis in the States, so it’s going to be good.”

Schock’s teammate at Rick Ware Racing, Enzo Lopes took Superpole in Australia but admits he has had his work cut out in keeping up with Anstie.

Lopes added: “Well, I got lucky because Max went off the track, but, yeah, it’s always nice. This year, it has been really difficult for the riders in the SX2 class to catch Max. Last weekend was good, but also terrible. I felt like I was up on a bit of speed in my riding, and that I was definitely closer to Max this time. Unfortunately, I had some shock issues, and that’s why I crashed, but I’m just trying my hardest, and should be a good race tomorrow.”
