Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing delivered a statement weekend at round fifteen of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship, as Kay de Wolf completed a masterclass performance to win every session and race at the MXGP of Flanders in Lommel.

The Dutchman’s perfect 1-1-1 scorecard marked a pivotal moment in his title campaign-catapulting him back into second in the championship standings and reigniting the chase for the red plate.

“Lommel is a special place for me. It’s one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar, but I felt at home straight away. From the first lap on Saturday, everything just clicked - I found my rhythm early and focused on staying smooth and consistent. From the first lap on Saturday, I felt super comfortable. I found my rhythm and just focused on keeping consistent. The team gave me the perfect bike for this kind of track - I could use my height and style to really ride the sand well. This was exactly the weekend we needed in the championship fight. The season’s far from over, and we’re going to keep pushing all the way.”

Set in the heart of Belgium’s motocross heartland, Lommel has long been revered as the ultimate test of rider and machine. The 1850-metre track-featuring 53 metres of elevation and infamous for its bottomless sand-was made even more demanding by heavy rain on Friday, deepening the ruts and sharpening the bumps.

As a recognised sand specialist, de Wolf arrived with confidence. Coming into the weekend third in the standings with 641 points - just one behind rival Andrea Adamo - de Wolf knew Lommel could be a turning point. From the first lap of timed practice, that mindset was clear. The Dutch rider topped the session on his final lap, edging out Sacha Coenen by just over three tenths.

Saturday’s qualifying race saw de Wolf play his cards to perfection. Moving into the lead on lap six, he controlled the race with precision-eventually taking the win by nearly five seconds and adding 10 valuable points to his tally.

On Sunday, de Wolf raised the bar again. In the opening moto, he was simply untouchable. From the opening lap, de Wolf launched into the lead and never looked back. A fastest lap of 2:03.779 on lap two set the tone, and with average speeds approaching 52 km/h through the brutal sand, he opened a commanding gap. After 14 laps of pure class, he crossed the line with a staggering 28.9-second advantage-his 24th career moto win.

Race two brought more humid conditions, but equally no let-up in intensity. After charging into second on the opening lap, de Wolf took the lead by lap two seconds and began stretching away. Coenen briefly threatened mid-moto, trimming the lead to just over seven seconds, but de Wolf responded with composure. As the remaining laps ticked down, he extended his advantage again, eventually sealing victory by 11.4 seconds and securing his 25th career race win in style.

With 60 points scored-the maximum available-de Wolf climbed to second in the MX2 standings on 666 points, just 38 behind series leader Simon Längenfelder. His ninth moto victory of the season and 35th career MX2 podium arrived at a crucial time, with just six rounds remaining.

The previous GP in Loket, Kay de Wolf claimed fifth overall with 6-4 finishes at the MXGP of Czech Republic, as Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing took on a demanding fourteenth round of the MX2 World Championship.

"It wasn’t the result we came here for, but I’m proud of how we turned things around after race one. Loket is always a tricky place - the track changes so much throughout the weekend, and it really keeps you on your toes. After the crash in the first moto, I just tried to reset and focus on what I could control. The second race was a lot stronger, and I felt like I was riding well - just ran out of time to get closer to the podium. Still, we took good points and we’re right there in the championship.”

Loket, a legendary stop on the MXGP calendar since 1995, offered up its trademark test of precision and bravery once more. Built into a steep hillside and carved into evolving hardpack soil, the circuit was as technical as ever - especially following heavy rainfall on Saturday that gave way to blue skies and winds on race day. As the surface dried and broke down, the track grew bumpier and more unpredictable, keeping riders on the edge of traction and constantly on alert.

Kay de Wolf entered Sunday in strong form, having qualified third on Saturday - a promising start to the weekend. In race one on Sunday, de Wolf launched from mid-pack and rounded the first turn in ninth. After climbing to seventh on the opening lap, he set about chasing the leaders - but a small crash on lap four saw him drop back to eleventh. Undeterred, he regrouped quickly and began clawing back positions. By the closing laps, he surged past rivals Lata and Benistant to secure sixth at the flag - a solid salvage job that added 15 points to his weekend tally.

As the wind picked up and clouds hovered overhead, race two brought a renewed sense of urgency. De Wolf didn’t get the cleanest start but moved into eighth early and found his rhythm. Showing calculated aggression, he sliced through the field - overtaking McLellan and then Farres to move into fourth by lap ten. Though a podium challenge was out of reach, the Dutchman rode with conviction, pushing all the way to the flag to lock in fourth and fifth overall for the day.
