Defending world MX2 champion, Kay De Wolf has closed the points gap to red plate rider, Simon Langenfelder with a win in the MX2 qualification race today. The Nestaan Husqvarna rider won the moto after starting in third place and passing early leader, Sasha Coenen mid-race. Coenen finished second and third was Guillem Farres, with Langenfelder fourth.

Championship points are now Simon Längenfelder 891 points and Kay de Wolf 878pts, so a difference of just 13 points. Two motos tomorrow and anything possible, but the German must still be the favourite heading into Sunday?

Kay De Wolf: It was a good moto, good start. Did what I had to do. Charged myself up all week for this and we will give 110% and I won't regret the season. I was 70 points down after Matterey Basin and I am just excited to go racing.

MX2 Qualification Race

Coenen with the lead in the MX2 qualifier, then came Reisulis, de Wolf, Farres, Adamo, Langenfelder, Valin, Elzinga, McLellan, Walvoort and Karssemakers. Liam Everts in last spot and de Wolf moved into second place as he passed the Latvian.

Lap two and it was Coenen with a 1.3 second lead over de Wolf, with Farres into third and 2.9 off the leader’s pace. Reisulis came next, then Adamo, Langenfelder, Valin, Elzinga, McLellan and Walvoort 10th. De Wolf a big mistake but held onto second place but lost a lot of time to Coenen. Lap three the gap was now 2.3 seconds.

De Wolf back at it and closing up on Coenen, as Langenfelder got past Adamo and fights to get to Reisulis in fourth place. Reisulis a mistake an both Langenfelder and Adamo went past. Top ten on lap five was Coenen, de Wolf, Farres, Langenfelder, Adamo, Reisulis, Valin, Elzinga, McLellan and Karssemakers.

De Wolf into the lead as he passed Coenen and Farres some nine seconds back in third. Langenfelder 9.3 seconds back in fourth, but Adamo making life difficult as he tries to pass the German rider. Langenfelder and Adamo going backward and forward.

Langenfelder got away from Adamo and looked a safe fourth place as he tried to pull in Farres in third place and de Wolf 4.3 ahead of Coenen. The championship points dropped down a little today. De Wolf wins it from Coenen, Farres, Langenfelder and Adamo.
