In front of a large Australian crowd and in overcast conditions, Nestaan Husqvarna rider and defending MX2 champion, Kay De Wold, pushed his way to victory in the opening MX2 moto in Darwin today.

The Dutchman took a good start and was following in second place, with he collided with series leader and then race leader, Simon Langenfelder. The German went down hard, but was able to remount in second and remained there. The points gap going into moto two is now 10 points between the two championship leaders, Längenfelder 913 points, Kay de Wolf 903pts.

Kay De Wolf: I had to get past and I couldn't do it easy, so I gave him a love tap. People can decide what they think, I have my idea on it, now lets go to the second one and see what happens.

MX2 Moto One

Langenfelder the holeshot, but De Wolf into the lead of the opening MX2 moto, ahead of Langenfelder, who dives up the inside and regained the lead. Farres into the lead as the two title contenders bang bars and mess each other up a little.

Top ten on lap one was Farres, Langenfelder, de Wolf, Coenen, Valin, Everts, Adamo, Lata, Reisulis, and McLellan 10th. Langenfelder right onto Farres for the lead and surprisingly, de Wolf dropped off the pace a little.

Lap three, the lead by Farres was 1.6 over Langenfelder, with de Wolf in third and 2.2 seconds back. Coenen was fourth some 4.7 seconds off the leader, then came Valin, Everts, Adamo, Lata, Reisulis, and McLellan 10th.

Langenfelder continues to tried to take the lead and did so on lap five as he moved past Farres, but the Spaniard back into the lead as de Wolf was two seconds back. Langenfelder back into the lead and de Wolf also passed Farres.

Lap seven it was Farres and Coenen who collided, and the Belgian took a huge crash. Farres got off scott free, but Coenen seemingly out of the race as he cruised back to the mechanics area. Lap 11 it was Langenfelder with a 3.1 second lead over de Wolf, then Farres still third, Valin, Everts, Adamo, Lata, McLellan, Reisulis and Elzinga 10th.

High drama as Langenfelder crashed and dropped back to second place, as De Wolf took the lead and pushed the German to the ground as they collided. De Wolf wins it from Langenfelder and Farres.
