De Wolf Takes Moto One
In front of a huge and very enthusiastic Dutch crowd, Nestaan Husqvarna factory rider Kay De Wolf not only won the opening MX2 moto, but extended his points lead over team-mate, Lucas Coenen, who finished second. It was a sand racing masterclass from De Wolf, who look the lead early and put in lap after lap of beautiful sand skills.
With the women and 125cc overall victories going to Dutch riders, the day just got better and better for the large crowd. Points lead for De Wolf is again 51 points, De Wolf 759 points, Coenen 708pts.
Kay De Wolf: He was closing in, but I had it in control. Really happy with the first mot. I cannot thank the fans enough, they really supported me. We go back now and get ready for the second race.
MX2 Moto One
Sasha Coenen with the holeshot from De Wolf, followed by, Everts, Adamo, McLellan, Haarup, Elzinga, Lucas Coenen, Langenfelder and Prugnieres 10th. Lucas Coenen moved past Elzinga and into sixth place, and Everts takes the lead on lap two. Haarup dropped to 10th place and De Wolf moved into second place and going after Everts.
Amazing atmosphere in Arnhem with a huge Dutch crowd and De Wolf going for the lead, but Everts not allowing it in the early going. Adamo moved past Sasha Coenen and top ten was Everts, De Wolf, Adamo, Sasha Coenen, McLellan, Lucas Coenen, Elzinga, Reisulis, Langenfelder and Prugnieres. Lucas Coenen passed his brother for fifth position.
De Wolf into the lead as he passed Everts and the sound from the spectators is just spectacular. Zanchi 14th and Valk 15th. Sasha Coenen dropped back to eight and on lap three it was De Wolf, Everts, Adamo, Lucas Coenen, McLellan, Elzinga, Reisulis, Sasha Coenen, Langenfelder and Prugnieres. Langenfelder passed Sasha Coenen, who is struggling with an injury.
De Wolf the quickest lap of the moto and the lead is 1.3 over Everts, then Lucas Coenen, who moved past Adamo, followed by Adamo, McLellan, Elzinga, Langenfelder, Sasha Coenen and Prugnieres 10th. Haarup back into 10th as he passed Prugnieres. Lucas Coenen the quickest lap of the moto and he is going after the two front guys.
Lap six and the lead by de Wolf over Everts was 3.6 seconds, with Lucas Coenen 6.2 seconds off the leader, then came Adamo, McLellan, Reisulis, Elzinga, Langenfelder, Sasha Coenen and Haarup. Lap eight and the lead was 5.6 seconds, but Coenen passed his countryman Everts for second and going after his Dutch team-mate. Valk up to 13th place.
12 minutes and two laps remaining and the gap between De Wolf and Lucas Coenen was 5.5 seconds, and the Belgian is doing better lap times. Might come down to the wire. Lucas Coenen a mistake off running off the circuit, but back on quickly. De Wolf looking very calm today, and not making mistakes like yesterday.
On lap 10 the gap was six seconds, thanks to the mistake by Coenen and they are going through a lot of traffic now. A lap later the gap was 7.2 seconds and both Husky riders are riding well, but De Wolf, with the support of the crowd is getting away. Top ten was de Wolf, Lucas Coenen, Everts, Adamo, McLellan, Elzinga, Reisulis, Haarup, Langenfelder, Prugnieres 10th.
De Wolf doing lap times two seconds a lap quicker than Coenen and the gap went to 11 seconds. This circuit is just killing these riders, looks way rougher than last year and could easily be as brutal as Lommel.
Two minutes and two laps remaining and the lead was 8.5 seconds and Lucas Coenen needs to put down some seriously good laps to catch De Wolf, but anything is possible. Top ten on lap 14 was De Wolf, Lucas Coenen, Everts, Adamo, Elzinga, McLellan, Reiuslis, Haarup, Langenfelder and Sasha Coenen. Valk up to 11th place, Zanchi 12th.
A lap later the lead was 7.2 seconds, but is De Wolf trying to trick Coenen into pushing harder and burning out for the second moto, or is Coenen just riding brilliantly? Bit of both I guess. Final laps Coenen all over De Wolf for the lead, with a bike length or two seperating them. Great charge by Coenen, but not good enough, De Wolf wins it from Coenen and Everts.
