De Wolf Takes Spain - MX2
Nestaan Husqvarna factory rider, Kay de Wolf came to hunt in Spain today and after a poor start in the second MX2 moto, where he was around 20th place at the start, he worked his way to fourth place and with a 1-4, won the Spanish GP. Second overall was in form Andrea Adamo with 5-1 and third overall was Sasha Coenen with 6-2. Brilliant GP for the 250 riders.
Kay De Wolf: Yes, it was a crazy one. Unreal, this was Eli Tomac doing beast mode and it was an amazing second moto. First moto was easy got into second and passed Thibo and then the second moto I don’t know what happened we got together with the bars and I was nearly last and I kept pushing and the last two laps I made four passes, which was pretty good.
Championship points are now Kay de Wolf 380 points, Simon Längenfelder 365pts, Andrea Adamo 359pts, Liam Everts 313pts and Thibault Benistant 271 pts.
MX2 Moto Two
Coenen led the second MX2 moto from Zanchi, Langenfelder, Adamo, Farres, Everts, Braceras, Benistant, McLellan and Elzinga. Farres quickly dropped to 12th place and Valk moved into the top ten. De Wolf back in 17th place and then quickly into 14th place.
Lap two and it was Coenen with a 6.6 second lead over Langenfelder, with Adamo 8.2 back in third, then Adamo, Everts, Benistant, McLellan, Elzinga, de Wolf, Pruginieres, and Oliver. De Wolf really pushing to get to the front and showing why he is the World champion.
Adamo into second place on lap four as he passed Langenfelder and Everts also looking to pass the German rider. De Wolf closing up on Elzinga for seventh position. Benistant moved past Everts, who was also passed by McLellan and dropped to sixth position.
Lap eight and the lead was more than 10 seconds for Coenen, with Adamo two seconds ahead of Langenfelder and then came Benistant, Everts, McLellan, Elzinga, de Wolf, Reisulis, and Zanchi in 10th spot.
De Wolf into seventh place as he passed Elzinga and three seconds behind McLellan, with Everts the next after the South African. On lap 12 it was Coenen with a 9.4 second lead, then Adamo, Langenfelder, Benistant, Everts, McLellan, de Wolf, Elzinga, Reisulis and Zanchi.
Coenen a mistake and passed by Adamo, with Coenen 1.1 seconds back, and these two battling for the GP victory. Lap 14 and it wa Adamo with a 3.1 second lead, then Coenen, Langenfelder, Benistant, Everts, de Wolf, McLellan, Elzinga, Reisulis and Zanchi 10th. Ridiculous, five riders in with a shot to win the Grand Prix with just a few laps remaining.
Adamo leading the moto and the GP, but De Wolf closing up on Everts and a pass there for the Dutchman would mean he wins it, or, if Coenen can pass Adamo, he takes the GP win. Exciting stats for the MX2 boys.
Adamo getting away from Coenen who started making small mistakes and Langenfelder was closing on the Belgian, with Benistant and Everts battling for fourth position. De Wolf into fifth and he nearly collided with Benistant. Crazy close racing today around this beautiful Lugo circuit.
Three laps remaining and it was Adamo with 3.3 over Coenen, then Langenfelder, de Wolf, Benistant, Everts, McLellan, Elzinga, Reisulis, and Zanchi. De Wolf winning the GP with those passes. Adamo wins the moto, de Wolf the GP.
