  • Race Report

Nestaan Husqvarna rider Kay De Wolf went a long way to becoming the 2024 MX2 World champion, taking the opening moto win and extending his championship lead to more than 60. The Dutchman started in second and passed early leader Thibault Benistant and have a safe and solid moto to win.

Second in the moto was Liam Everts and third Thibault Benistant. Championship points are now de Wolf 811 points and Lucas Coenen 758pts. So the points gap is now 53 points.

Moto One MX2

In muddy conditions, it was Benistant who led the opening MX2 moto from de Wolf, Elzinga, Reisulis, Oliver, Sasha Coenen, Langenfelder, Zanchi, Everts and Braceras with Lucas Coenen 11th. Adamo in 13th place.

Sasha Coenen a mistake and he dropped to 12th, allowing brother Lucas into 10th and Haarup into 11th. One lap in the lead by Benistant was 2.6 seconds. Lucas Coenen moved past Everts and was up to eight place, with Everts dropping to ninth.

Everts and Coenen get together, and the son of Stefan moved back into seventh and working this mud track to his best knowledge. On lap three, the top ten was Bensitant, de Wolf, Elzinga, Reisulis, Langenfelder, Zanchi, Everts, Lucas Coenen, Haarup, and Prugnieres in 10th.

MX2 really hasn’t delivered great racing on many occasions this year and this moto is not seeing a lot of close racing for the moto win. Benistant 1.8 ahead of De Wolf, so the Dutchman closing the gap in the Frenchman. Sasha Coenen still back, but in 17th now. Everts, Coenen and Haarup all passed Zanchi as he dropped to ninth place.

Everts working hard to get past Langenfelder, but the German making sure the Belgian stays behind him. On lap six it was Benistant with a 1.2 second lead, then de Wolf, Elzinga, Reisulis, Langenfelder, Everts, Lucas Coenen, Haarup, Zanchi, Prugnieras with Adamo in 11th and again Sasha Coenen a mistake and dropped to 18th.

De Wolf all over Benistant for the lead and looking very sharp and Adamo also crashed and into 13th position. De Wolf into the lead on lap eight and Elzinga also moved past Benistant, who slipped over. Langenfelder and Everts also closing on Benistant, who will more than likely fade in his first race back.

Everts into fourth as he passed Langenfelder and Reisulis and as he showed in the mud in the past, he is loving this. Still 10 minutes remaining and gotta say, these MX2 races sometimes feel like two hours long.

Elzinga closing the gap to his countryman and it was less than a second on lap 11. Haarup all over Lucas Coenen for seventh spot. Everts into third as he passed Benistant and on lap 11 it was de Wolf, Elzinga, Everts, Benistant, Langenfelder, Reisulis, Lucas Coenen, Haarup, Zanchi and Prugnieres. Haarup a mistake and he dropped back to from Coenen.

Lap 14 and the lead by De Wolf over Everts was 2.3 seconds as Elzinga’s machine dies and the Dutchman pulls out of the race. Top ten with three laps remaining was De Wolf, Everts, Benistant, Langenfelder, Lucas Coenen, Haarup, Zanchi, Reisulis, Prugnieres and McLellan. Everts suddenly all over de Wolf. Great battle up front as Everts closed right up on De Wolf.
