De Wolf Wins Lommel - MX2
Nestaan Husqvarna factory rider Kay De Wolf has gone 1-2 for a spectacular, but drama filled victory in Lommel today. Despite a handful of crashes, de Wolf was still more consistent than anyone else, as the MX2 riders were destroyed by the deep sand of Lommel. The Dutchman also extended his championship points lead as his team-mate, Lucas Coenen struggled somewhat, finishing with 5-8. Rick Elzinga was second overall with 2-4, to make it a Dutch double, and third Simon Langenfelder with 6-1.
Kay De Wolf: Really mixed emotions, I don't know what I was doing. I was really struggling and we gained good points and won, but this riding isn't good and we need to work on that. I won't enjoy this win until maybe tonight. I extended my championship lead again and happy with that. I am not happy with the second moto, but won my sixth GP and we are like two minutes from the work-shop and everyone is here today.
Championship points are now Kay de Wolf 683 points, Lucas Coenen 618pts, Simon Laengenfelder 606pts, Liam Everts 556pts and Mikkel Haarup 465pts. A 65 point lead for De Wolf heading to Sweden in two weeks and with six rounds remaining.
MX2 Moto Two
Sasha Coenen led again in the second MX2 moto from Elzinga, Reisulis, de Wolf, Langenfelder, Everts, Lucas Coenen, Walvoort, Haaup, McLellan and Rainio. Lap one and De Wolf moved into third and Everts passed Langenfelder. Zanchi crashed on lap one and was back in 20th place. McLellan also crashed and well back and Lucas Coenen also crashed. The MX2 boys really struggling at Lommel in 2024.
De Wolf into second as he passed Elzinga and on lap three it was Sasha Coenen, De Wolf, Elzinga, Reisulis, Everts, Langenfelder, Haarup, Walvoort, Oliver and Rainio in 10th. Zanchi 12th, McLellan 15th and Lucas Coenen 21st.
De Wolf into the lead on lap four and the Dutchman looking to pick up a lot of points, points that Lucas Coenen was struggling to make today. This might just be the Grand Prix that hands De Wolf the World MX2 championship. Top ten on lap five was de Wolf, Sasha Coenen, Elzinga, Everts, Langenfelder, Reisulis, Haarup, Walvoort, Oliver and Zanchi.
De Wolf a mistake and he crashed and dropped out of first, handing the lead to Sasha Coenen, but up quickly and not losing too much time. On lap six the lead was 5.6 seconds, with Elzinga 6.6 off the pace of the leader. Lap eight and the lead was just a second. Lucas Coenen up to 16th and gaining some points, but not a lot.
De Wolf into the lead on lap nine and the top ten was De Wolf, Sasha Coenen, Elzinga, Everts, Langenfelder, Reisulis, Haarup, Walvoort, Oliver and McLellan 10th. Zanchi 11th and Lucas Coenen 13th. Amazingly close between the top five riders, just five seconds between them.
Everts into third as he passed Elzinga and Langenfelder followed Everts past. De Wolf crashed again and now back in fifth place and the GP could be handed to Elzinga if de Wolf can’t come back.
Everts into second and Langenfelder both went past Sasha Coenen, who dropped off the bike again and was in sixth and Elzinga making signals to his team that he has a problem with the bike. Langenfelder into second as he passed Everts and Langenfelder going after Elzinga, who seems to be struggling somewhat.
Lap 12 its Elzinga just ahead of Langenfelder, who is just ahead of Everts, who is just ahead of de Wolf. A four-way battle for the lead. Langenfelder into the lead, and Everts and De Wolf also going after the Dutchman. Elzinga fourth and again it looks like de Wolfs Grand Prix to win. Lucas Coenen 11th and again, major points lost in Lommel.
De Wolf into second and the GP is his to lose again. Lap 13 it was Langenfelder, de Wolf, Everts, Elzinga, Reisulis, Sasha Coenen, Haarup, Walvoort, McLellan, and Oliver 10th.
