Dortmund SX - Preview
When the curtain rises on the 41st edition of the ADAC Supercross Dortmund from 9 to 11 January 2026, the Westfalenhalle will once again be transformed into the pulsating heart of European indoor cross. The event has long been an institution that radiates far beyond the classic motorsport bubble and captivates experts and families alike.
For around four hours on each day of the event, spectators can expect a high-energy programme of thrilling racing and the breathtaking show of the freestyle elite that conquers the airspace of the Westfalenhalle. From the massive laser show at the opening to the smell of racing fuel in the hall – the legendary Dortmund vibe is more intense than ever this year when tradition meets modern racing dynamics. The combination of top sporting performance and spectacular entertainment ensures that the atmosphere is electrifying from the very first second.
In the premier class SX1, the Westfalenhalle is facing a historic turning point in its all-time list of the best. Frenchman Cédric Soubeyras has a very special goal in mind: With currently 404 points, he only needs a single point on the first evening to equal Florent Richier's previous record. Every additional point makes him the most successful driver this hall has ever seen. But the competition is enormous. Above all, Greg Aranda, the reigning 'King of Dortmund', will do everything he can to defend his throne.
Aranda knows the demanding ground like no other and leads the statistics with a total of five stage victories in the Westfalenhalle. With the two Australians Matt Moss and Luke Clout, other heavyweights intervene in the action, which provides additional excitement on the course, which is redesigned year after year. Meanwhile, the German fans are looking particularly excited at Maximilian 'Spicy' Spies. The tall Brandenburg rider has established himself as the best local rider in the elite and, after his strong seventh place overall at the season opener in Stuttgart, now wants to make it onto the podium in Dortmund's cauldron.
This year, the junior elite of the SX2 class is facing a sporting premiere that requires tactical skill and the highest level of consistency. For the first time, the 'Triple Crown' format will also be held in this class on the final Sunday, in which three separate ranked races will decide the day's victory. At the top of the ADAC SX Cup, a highly emotional duel is raging between the current 'Prince of Stuttgart', Jules Pietre, and the reigning Cup champion Calvin Fonvieille, who are separated by only a few points. From a German point of view, hopes rest on Noah Ludwig, who finished on the podium in Stuttgart. A special highlight for the local fans is also the comeback of Carl Ostermann. For the 20-year-old, Dortmund is like his living room, having won an incredible twelve races in a row at the Westfalenhalle between 2012 and 2015.
The newly created SX Next class acts as an innovative springboard for German talents aged 13 to 25 to pave the way for the transition to the international SX2 category. In this class, one name in particular is coming into the focus of the home fans: Oskar Romberg. The 17-year-old from neighboring Werl is a real local hero and reigning champion in the 125cc class of the German Motocross Championship (DMX). He is eager to prove himself in the spotlight on his doorstep. Romberg represents the young generation of German pilots. While riders like Leo Paukovic are considered favourites after their successes in Stuttgart, Romberg is counting on the support of the Dortmund crowd to make a clear statement in the field of young hopefuls.
Dortmund also offers the stage of their lives for the youngest participants. In the MAOAM Kids Race of the SX4 class, the best 65cc riders in the country, such as Eddi Haustein and Bruno Lenarz, will fight for the prestigious victory. In the SX5 class, meanwhile, the eKids impressively prove that silent electric drive and high-class racing harmonize perfectly. With the newly crowned German champion Oskar Gajewski at the starting gate, high tension is guaranteed when the stars of tomorrow are already fighting for every centimetre today.
The demand for Germany's most traditional Supercross event continues unabated in its 41st year. While Saturday evening, as already reported, is completely sold out, SX fans still have the chance to be there live on the opening night (Friday, January 9) and on Family Sunday (January 11). Tickets are currently still available for these two days in all categories. Tickets are available online at www.supercross-dortmund.de, via the ticket portal of the Westfalenhallen as well as in the well-known Eventim ticket shops and all ADAC offices.
For all fans who cannot make the trip to the Westfalenhalle in person, there is a first-class alternative, as all three days of the event will be broadcast in full length via livestream. On the official website www.supercross-dortmund.de, motorsport enthusiasts worldwide can get up close and personal. On the opening evening, the program begins at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. On each of the three days, the hottest news from the paddock will be presented in a preshow 30 minutes before the start.
