Dutch Internationals July 26 and August 2

Posted on July 03, 2020

With riders ready to go racing, we have two "pre-season" International races set up in Holland in late July and early August. Fantastic news about these two International races set for Holland leading into the MXGP opener in Latvia, with races in Lelystad (hardpack) on July 26 and Axel (sand) on August 2. Both races will be without crowds, but a bunch of Grand Prix riders will be competing, and the list is growing by the minute.

From what I understand talking to several team manages, is that everyone is planning on doing these races, although I was unable to talk with KTM, it is hard to imagine that Jeffrey Herlings won’t be there, being that it is in his home country and Axel is in the sand. It is understood that the other Dutchie Glenn Coldenhoff has been busy trying to get the Internationals going, so you can count on the GasGas factory being there.

What I can say is having spoken to Marcus de Freitas this morning from HRC, they are looking into the races and most of the other factory teams will be involved. Of course the news of these races is rather new and many teams didn't even know about the events.

“I didn’t even know about these races, but maybe we would like to do them. There would be a lot of riders there and it would be nice to have some contact and see our level compared to the other riders, so we will try and find out.” Marcus de Freitas told us. “We will contact the Dutch federation about it and for sure it would be good preparation for Latvia and the new season.”

Rasmus Jorgensen team manager of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna MX2 effort is also excited to go racing again and the two Dutch races fit perfectly into their “pre-season” preparation.

“I think it makes sense now,” Rasmus Jorgensen said. “And for sure now we are close to the start. If we can go for an hour from the base, it would be good to have those Dutch races. They are close and it will be easy, no public allowed, just GP riders coming there and a gate drop. I don’t know the dates, but just talks.

Marnicq Bervoets the team manager of Monster Energy Yamaha MX2 factory team is also looking at taking his team to these races with his two riders Jago Geerts and Ben Watson.

“We spoke to Holland," Bervoets said. "They asked if we were interested and I said it depends if it is hardpack or sand, but now it is Latvia, so it would be good with two International races in Holland to prepare.”

And Antti Pyrhonen from the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team is also in for the Dutch Internationals, so expect Arminas Jasikonis to be lining up against the other factory boys.

“Yes, we will do those races and it is a good way to prepare. We are on our way to Czech Republic for the race there, but we will want to have races against the top guys to prepare for Latvia."

MXlarge will without question visit these events, and get you a full coverage as we move into what is going to be a very exciting time in the sport, despite these horrible past six months. Look for a bunch of interviews in the coming weeks as we venture to the training tracks in Holland and give you as always the best coverage from the MXGP championships.
