Everts Builds Momentum
Nestaan Husqvarna factory rider, Liam Everts might be off the pace of the top three in the World MX2 championship and nearly 100 points down on series leader Simon Langenfelder, of the Red Bull KTM factory team, but you can never count out this talented Belgian.
Everts delivers a consistent 2-5 performance to finish fourth at the MXGP of Latvia last weekend. Everts kept his cool throughout, riding with composure and consistency to score a strong third-place finish and put himself firmly in the hunt for an overall podium.
Everts once again delivered when it mattered. Battling in the top six throughout, he dug deep in the closing stages to pass Guillem Farres and secure fifth at the line. His 3-5 scorecard was enough for fourth overall-just one spot shy of the podium, but another important haul of championship points.
“I think it was a solid weekend overall. In the first moto I had a good start, felt comfortable, and managed to bring it home in third. The second race was much tougher - they flattened the whole track again, so it was really difficult to make passes. I was in podium position at one point, but after #27 [Längenfelder] went down, I ended up fourth overall. Still, it’s definitely the best I’ve felt riding here in Kegums, so there are positives to take. We’ll keep pushing and get ready for Matterley.
A week earlier in German, Everts scored 6-8 finishes, which earned him sixth overall and solid points towards his championship campaign. Everts navigated the treacherous conditions with trademark composure. Despite a mid-pack start in the second moto, he picked his way into eighth and survived a late scare - tagging the rear wheel of a back marker - to maintain his position.
“It was not a bad weekend for me. In the first moto, I had a good start and was able to ride quite consistently in sixth place. The second race was really tricky with the rain - the track changed a lot, and it was not easy to find the right lines. I had a small moment with a back marker but stayed on the bike and finished eighth, so that was okay. Sixth overall is not amazing, but I felt quite good, and we are making progress. I’m looking forward to the next one and will keep working.”
Now onto Matterley Basin in around 10 days time, a circuit that has been kind to the Everts family in the past and one that we all hope Everts can put together a GP winning performance.
