The greatest Grand Prix rider of all time, Stefan Everts has come out in the Belgian media and placed his support behind his fellow Belgian, Lucas Coenen to more than likely win the MXGP World championship in 2025 and become the first Belgian World motocross champion, since Steve Ramon, back in 2007, when Coenen was just one year old.

The 10 time World champion, who retired before Coenen was even born told Belgian new source, Sporza, what he thinks of this amazing young teenager.

Stefan Everts: We have five GPs to race and there are still a few difficult ones, but the chances are good. Lucas has had a very good season so far and has already made enormous progress. We have seen him develop very quickly in recent years. Making his jump to the MXGP class so quickly was obviously a big surprise for everyone, but he’s certainly living up to it. In terms of speed, I certainly expected him to be able to complete, but especially in terms of experience and physical strength as a rookie, you usually fail in your first years. We don’t see that with Lucas. He has been there since he was a freshman, physically as well.

Of course, the Red Bull KTM factory rider mentioned to MXLarge yesterday, what a great thrill it would be to become the first Belgian World champion in nearly 20 years.

Lucas Coenen: Yes, that would be awesome to bring them back on top and get Belgium to the highest level. We also want to try and get more tracks, because we don’t have many tracks and maybe if they see we have a World champion and riders at the top, we can get the sport on top and maybe they see the talent and try and make more tracks.
