Everts - The King of MXoN

Posted on September 14, 2021

A moto victory at the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations isn’t something that comes easy, and very few riders get the chance to win a moto at this very prestigious event more than once. Only 20 riders in the last 30 years have been able to win more than a single moto a the Nations, and a bunch of legends sit in that group.

The last 40 years of this event have been split between the powerful American team, and a short list of European nations.

No nation victories for Australia, South Africa, New Zealand or any other non-European nations, just The Netherlands, USA, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany and Great Britain.

Of course the golden era of the American domination was from 1981 until 1993, with something of a stronghold on the Chamberlain Trophy also between 2005 until 2011.

The Americans have won half of the last 31 MXoN events, since 1988, with Belgium winning six, France five, Italy two and Great Britain and Germany one each.

In moto wins, American riders have won 31 motos at the MXoN in the last 31 years, Belgium have 17 moto wins, and France have 13.

Individually, Stefan Everts has proven to be the best MXoN rider from the last 30 years, with 11 moto wins from 1993 until 2006. Antonio Cairoli is the second most successful guy at the event, with six moto wins, and equal second is Ricky Carmichael also with six moto wins.

Can Herlings, Cairoli or Coldenhoff add to their moto wins at this years event at Mantova in Italy?
