As we head to the Lugo circuit in Spain for the sixth round of the 2024 MXGP championship, we head there with the great memories of last weekend’s MXGP of Portugal, where the mud and rain made it, a drama filled weekend.

While the MXGP class saw riders having major problems, in the MX2 class, a famous name just rode around like he was having a Sunday drive. No pressure and just showing that this third generation Everts has some of his fathers and grandfathers’ talents.

We all know that Father Stefan was great in the mud, and we all know the family has 14 World motocross championships, but for many of you, Harry Everts victories are far too long ago for anyone to remember. Below is a cool video of the oldest of the Everts family winning at the very famous Circuito del Valles Sabadell Terrassa. On Puch machine, Harry scored third in the World the previous season in the 250cc class and in 1975, he scored his first of four World title.

Riding the Puch machine, Everts went 3-2 for the victory in Spain, the opening round of the 250cc World championship. He would go 1-1 in Poland in round five and 2-1 in England at round eight. By season end his 179 points was enough to see him take victory ahead of Hakan Andersson on the Yamaha and Willie Bauer on the Suzuki.

Back in the day 12 rounds were run and from memory, they counted your best eight rounds, for thus it was 159 points to Everts, 134pts to Anderson and 130pts to Bauer.

It was also the season that Suzuki arrived on the scene, with Gaston Rahier winning the 125cc championship and Roger De Coster the 500cc championship. Suzuki was on its way and soon after, Everts also joined the brand and won their three 125cc championships in a row.
