Everts Wins Moto One
As The Netherlands basked in brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures for this time of the year, Liam Everts of the Nestaan Husqvarna factory team has won the opening 250 race at the Lierop International, in The Netherlands today. The Belgian grabbed the lead early after a good start and continued to pull away from the field.
Kay Karrsemakers led early from Everts, Smulders, Heitink, Valin, Sorensen, Gregoire, Tolsma, Sools and Lucas. On lap two Everts took the lead and Valin moved into fourth place. The lead by Everts was 3.4 seconds on lap three. A lap later Everts was 5.2 ahead of Smulders, with Karrsemakers seven seconds back and Valin 7.5.
On lap six Everts had extended his lead to eight seconds with Smulders just ahead of Valin who was now right onto the second placed man. Everts was in control mode and got to 9.1 seconds ahead of Smulders, who had fought off the challenge from Valin and was a second ahead of the Frenchman.
Valin a mistake and now back in seventh place, with Sorensen moving into third position, 20 seconds off the pace of Everts and 8 seconds off Smulders, who was still second. On lap 10 the lead was 14 seconds between Everts and Smulders. Karrsemakers moved into third place as he passed Sorensen, and then Heitink also passed, with Valin now into sixth spot.
The lead on lap 13 was 23 seconds, with Karrsemakers 33 seconds back in third. Everts wins it by nearly 30 seconds from Smulders and Karrsemakers nearly 40 seconds back in third. A brilliant ride by the young Belgian, who will go to Argentina in a few days time with a lot of confidence.
