Evgeny Bobryshev interview - BOS

Posted on January 15, 2018

Russian racer Evgeny Bobryshev will have a very complicated and busy 2018, but that doesn’t matter to the always friendly GP rider, because he is back in MXGP full time after signing a deal with the BOS team from France.

Bobryshev who was dropped by HRC at a rather late stage of 2017, thought his GP career might be over as many teams already had team situations sorted, but when BOS KTM lost Benoit Paturel (due to a disagreement between the rider and team), it made way for BOS owner Olivier Bossard to organize a sport for Bobryshev.

Bobyshev who is currently racing the Power Maxed Arenacross series, will continue doing the indoor stuff, and will add the British motocross championship, on some occasions both MX1 and MX2, plus the GP series to his calendar.

We caught up with Bobby, when he called us and told us the news about his new MXGP deal.

MXlarge: Evgeny, thanks for your message. Its great news you are back full-time in MXGP.

Bobryshev: Yes, its good, its been a long time that we couldn’t get the deal right.

MXlarge: What made the difference, because you talked about it earlier, late last year, then of course all the stuff with Paturel happened. What made it possible to sign now?

Bobryshev: The time we spoke earlier, they started a new team, and everything was a rush and they couldn’t get a deal right. He was looking for budget, but now it is a little later and I think he found more budget and more sponsors, so we changed some things in the contract and now its fine.

MXlarge: I remember when we spoke before, off the record and you said you would continue riding for Neil in Maxxis, on a Suzuki and you will ride a Suzuki for BOS in MXGP. Is that still the case?

Bobryshev: Yes, it’s the same, nothing separates me from Neil. I will continue riding for Lombard Suzuki in the UK, and for BOS in the GPs. I still keep doing Arenacross and Maxxis and then maybe I will also try and do the MX2 class at the Maxxis for fun.

MXLarge: So, you might do both MX1 and MX2 at the Maxxis for some rounds?

Bobryshev: Yes, why not, for fun. I am a big guy, but I think it will be okay. I will have a very busy season.

MXlarge: You will do all the GPs?

Bobryshev: Yes, I will do all the GPs, that is what I was looking for.

MXlarge: It has been a tough winter for you. First losing your HRC ride at a late stage, then not knowing what your future was, finally getting something with Lombard Suzuki for Arenacross and Maxxis, but now you must be feeling pretty good about life with this new deal?

Bobryshev: You are correct, it wasn’t a good winter. A difficult period and everything has been late. My pre-season started late, but I have done a lot of work with Neil, so that is good, and now the deal with BOS will make it easier for me to do GPs. I try and catch up the time and try and get as quick as possible to my routine and start working with the BOS team. I am happy I am still in MXGP, where I belong.

MXlarge: You have ridden for HRC for many years, and now on a privateer Suzuki. How can you compare the two, is there much difference?

Bobryshev: For sure, it’s difference, but I am really happy with how the Suzuki is. I am happy to work with Neil Prince, he is a good guy and clever with the bike. Its easy to work on testing and have it sorted out quickly. It is another brand, and you can’t compare factory to private, but we do the best with it and we have maximum from it and we will be the best we can.

MXlarge: You have had tough times, not only this winter, but also injuries throughout your career. With this all happening so late, it must give you a lot of motivation for MXGP?

Bobryshev: For sure, I have been looking for this, and its easy now. I can do proper concentration for all the races that are coming. For a long time, my head was full of how can I do all the GPs and now I can do the proper work.

MXlarge: Through all this winter, in interviews I have done, or other websites, I see you have a lot of support on social media for the way you have taken up this challenge. We all know you are a good guy, but does that make you feel proud also?

Bobryshev: I learnt this from my parents. It is my character, and I have to be honest with people. I know this has sometimes hurt me, but sometimes it helps me. Also from my own experiences, its just who I am. I try and be with good people, so I can be good. Neil is very honest, so I can’t lie to him, just for an example.

MXLarge: You did two rounds of the Arenacross, the second one went a lot better than the first one, but how has the experience been for you?

Bobryshev: Oh, its been crazy the first one in Manchester (laughing). I get to this race, I wasn’t fit, I wasn’t training. I didn’t’ spend much time on the bike, so I went there crazy and I didn’t expect much from myself. I made a lot of mistakes and the bike wasn’t set right, but after the first one, we go the bike sorted really good, a huge improvement. Last Saturday I was more confident and feeling better on the bike. I was really happy after last Saturday.

MXlarge: So, what is the plan now leading into Argentina?

Bobryshev: Sure, I keep doing the Arenacross. I want to go to Spain, for testing, more riding, more testing and more training, in the good weather. If we have a weekend off from Arenacross, then we do some races, maybe in France.

MXlarge: What about Hawkstone, because Arenacross is the Saturday night and Hawkstone Sunday.

Bobryshev: Oh, yes, I forgot, we do Hawkstone the day after the Arenacross in Sheffield.
