Farres On Fire in Portugal
Triumph factory rider, Guillem Farres continued to close the points gap to series leader, Sasha Coenen in the world championship points, with a flag-to-flag victory for the Spaniard. As Coenen crashed early, was at one point last, before climbing through the field to finish in sixth position.
Second was talented Latvian, Janis Reisulis and third defending MX2 champion, Simon Langenfelder. Rounding out the top five were Camden McLellan and Liam Everts. The Spaniard has now pulled back 11 points, just on this weekend, so far. Ray Archer image
Guillem Farres: I was feeling good and that is when I am faster, when I am cruising around. We have a good setting for these types of track and I am super, super happy to feel this way, with this team. They are putting a big effort in.
MX2 Moto One
Farres with the lead in the opening MX2 moto, with Mikula second, before he took the lead, then Farres into second, followed by Coenen, Janis Reisulis, Langenfelder, Grau, Korsbeck, Everts, Mustoe and McLellan 10th. Coenen a crash and he dropped well back, as he was stuck in a part of the track he couldn’t cut. Eventually nearly last place.
Farres with a 1.5 second lead over Mikula, with Coenen in 20th place. Lap two the lead was three seconds, with Reisulis in second, then Mikula, Langenfelder, Grau, Everts, McLellan, Lata and Mustoe, with Coenen into 14th spot.
Farres continued to get away with the lead 4.4 on lap three and then a lap latwer 5.2 with Coenen into 10th place with 20 minutes and two laps still remaining. Top ten on lap five was Farres, Reisulis, Langenfelder, Mikula, Grau, McLellan, Everts, Lata, Coenen and Karlis Reisulis.
Coenen into 8th place, but 32 seconds behind Farres, and six seconds down on Lata in seventh spot. Everts into fifth place with a pass on Mikula, and Coenen closing up quickly to Lata. The lead by Farres over Janis Reisulis was down to 4.4 seconds, with Langenfelder 11 seconds off the leader.
Top ten on lap nine was Farres, with a 5.2 second lead, then Reisulis, Langenfelder, McLellan, Everts, Mikula, Lata, Coenen, Reisulis, Zanchi. Coenen now three seconds behind Lata and 10 seconds behind Mikula in sixth place.
Coenen into seventh with a pass on Lata, but eight seconds off Mikula and sixth spot. The lead by Farres was 6.5 seconds. Coenen flying and now just three seconds off Mikula and without doubt, going to catch and pass him. Coenen into sixth spot and15 seconds behind fifth placed man, Everts. Farres wins it from Janis Reisulis and Langenfelder.
