Farres Too Fast in South Africa
Triumph racer, Guillem Farres has won the South African Grand Prix with a perfect 1-1 performance. The Spaniard has closed right up in the MX2 championship points after Sasha Coenen had another below par result. The Belgian, who still holds the red plate went 2-6, which was not enough for third overall, however he did finish fourth overall.
Defending MX2 champion, Simon Langenfelder of the Red Bull KTM team went 3-2 for second overall and third was Monster Energy Yamaha factory rider, Janis Reisulis with 4-3 scores. Ray Archer image
Championship points are now Sacha Coenen 518 points, Guillem Farres 504pts, Simon Längenfelder 467pts, Camden Mc Lellan 455pts and Liam Everts 433 pts. So a 14 point lead by Coenen over Farres.
Guillem Farres: It feels pretty good. Got a good start and led all the laps and its awesome. The team has my back and also my trainer, Clement, my mechanic, my family, it is an awesome feeling. I haven't looked at the points, just go race by race, but we will get there. Really good weekend since free practice on Saturday. I am really confident going into the motos and I just managed the races and tried to be smart.
MX2 Moto Two
At the start of the second MX2 moto, it was Langenfelder knocking Coenen off the circuit and that handed the lead to Farres in the first corner. Coenen running off the circuit was in round seventh place, with Langenfelder second, then Janis Reisulis, Everts, Coenen quickly tucking in behind Everts, after being back in around 12th place.
Coenen went down hard and now well back in the pack and Farres probably smiling inside his helmet as the series points gap again goes in the favour of the Spaniard. Coenen’s bike damaged and the bike smoking badly.
Farres with a handy lead over Langengelder, then Janis Reisulis, Everts, Karlis Reisulis, McLellan and Lata. McLellan passed Karlis Reisulis and into fifth place. Karssemakers in eight place, then Grau and Coenen, who had worked his way into 10th place.
Lap four the top ten was Farres with a 5.4 second lead over Langenfelder, with Janis Reisulis nearly 10 seconds off the Spaniards lead, then came Everts, McLellan, Karlis Reisulis, Lata, Coenen, Grau and Karssemakers.
McLellan all over Everts for fourth spot in the moto, and Coenen going after Karlis Reisulis for sixth position. McLellan moved past Everts and then went after Reisulis, with huge pressure from the South African. Farres wins the moto and the GP. Langenfelder finished second in the moto, for second overall.
