Kawasaki factory rider, Romain Febvre won the opening MXGP moto in Lugo, Spain after starting in the lead and just waltzing away with the win. Extending his championship lead over Lucas Coenen, who moved into second place in the MXGP championship points, but is 52 points off the red plate owner. Second in the moto was Monster Energy Yamaha rider Max Renaux and third HRC man, Ruben Fernandez.

Romain Febvre: It is good to get the holeshot, that makes life easier, and then I could ride my pace and I had some good lines. The track is difficult and so many square bumps under the mud and it was hard, but I made it and now one to go.

World championship points are now Romain Febvre 364 points, Lucas Coenen 312pts, Tim Gajser 305pts, Glenn Coldenhoff 268pts and Maxime Renaux 247pts.

Lap seven and it was Febvre with a 9.7 second lead over Renaux, then Fernandez, Coenen, Coldenhoff, Bonacorsi, Vlaanderen, Guadaganini, Herlings and Van Doninck in 10th.
