French Elite - Race Report
Six rounds, pace, a large audience, sunshine, the third round of the 24MX Tour de Romagné made its mark. In the juniors, Sleny Goyer took advantage of the opportunity to win in style. Mathys Boisramé, heroic in front of his home crowd, took his first victory of the season in MX2. In the big guns, no surprise, Jeffrey Herlings climbed to the top step of the podium.
24MX Tour story and image
Guest star of the event Herlings logically did not tremble in the first set. The HRC official took the lead from the start and flew away from the halfway point of the race after a good resistance from Maxime Desprey. After an incredible start to the race by staying a few metres from the rear wheel of the five-time world champion, the Yamaha GSM Dafy Michelin rider finally finished 35 seconds behind.
The Burgundian scored precious points in the race for the title. Ranked P21 on the first lap after a missed start, Thibault Bénistant made the comeback of the heat by overtaking a very good Bogdan Krajewski to snatch third place on the last lap. Solid as always, Brice Maylin finished fifth.
Also note the problem of Kevin Horgmo (P8) who limits the damage after a fork block problem that occurred halfway through the race. In the second moto, JH84 immediately took the lead and set an MXGP pace that no one could follow.
Excellent until five minutes plus two laps from the finish, Brice Maylin resisted for long minutes against Kevin Horgmo and Thibault Bénistant. The rider Yam lost out and let the two Honda SR Motoblouz teammates fight for second place. Herlings finally won ahead of Horgmo, Bénistant, Maylin and Desprey (P5). In the general standings, the Dutchman logically wins (1/1) and is ahead of Thibault Bénistant (3/3) and Maxime Desprey (2/5).
MX2: Boisramé stops Garcia!
The best start of the first round was signed by Mathys Boisramé, at home in Romagné and very encouraged by the Breton public. The KTM 737 Performance rider is on the pace, but he can't counter Francisco Garcia. The championship leader quickly took matters into his own hands and widened the gap.
Much less success for his teammate Jake Cannon, whose KX-F did not start on the starting grid. The Australian finally started last with a 1/2 lap delay. In third place, Alexis Fueri secured his place and took a nice podium.
Three-time French MX2 champion, back in Romagné for fun on a Stark, Pierre Goupillon made his mark by finishing fourth ahead of championship regulars such as Tom Brunet (P6) and Jules Piètre (P7).
The second race was very lively with a holeshot from Garcia who fell a few hundred meters later, leaving the lead to Mathys Boisramé. Unleashed, the Breton driver set the pace, maintained a very high pace and managed his lead.
Behind him, the Spaniard came back, crashed a second time and finally regained second place. Solid until the end, the 737 Performance rider won with authority. Behind this duo, Jake Cannon took a very nice podium in the heat after falling at the start.
The Australian finished ahead of a solid Tom Brunet and Alexis Fueri who also came back from a long way back. By winning on home soil, Mathys Boisramé (2/1) stopped the unbeaten streak of his Spanish rival who finished second (1/2). With two good heats (3/5), Alexis Fueri and his 250 Beta climbed to the third step of the podium.
