Gajser, Geerts and Vialle - All Time List
Posted on May 10, 2022
It has been a crazy season in both MXGP and MX2 and for completely different reasons. Tim Gajser has been near unbeatable in MXGP and his six GP wins and his only loss in Portugal, could have very easily been his, as he was the fastest guy in that round.
In MX2, it has been a battle of the two big guns, Jago Geerts and Tom Vialle. We have seen these two battle in the past, but the roles have been reversed and it is now Geerts who looks solid and Vialle who seems to be struggling to keep away from mistakes.
Due to the domination by Gajser, Geerts and Vialle, we have just two other men in the first seven rounds of the championship with a GP victory, Simon Langenfelder from the opening round of MX2 and Jorge Prado from the MXGP of Portugal last month.
Of course Tim Gajser has made some major changes to the all-time GP winners list this year, moving past Eric Geboers 39, Mickael Pichon 38, Torsten Hallman 37, Roger De Coster 36 and Jorge Prado 36 to hold down sixth place behind just Stefan Everts 101, Jeffrey Herlings 99, Antonio Cairoli 94, Joel Smets 57 and Joel Robert 50.
Gajser needs 11 GP wins to catch Belgian legend Joel Robert and another seven to catch Joel Smets. If he can do that, he could very easily become the fourth biggest winner behind of course Everts and two of his biggest rivals Herlings and Cairoli. That would really cement this current era as possibly the greatest statistic wise of all time. We can't forget though, this current era run more than double GPs of the Robert era and nearly double from the Smets, Geboers era.
With his single win in MXGP this year, Jorge Prado joins Roger De Coster on 36 GP wins and if you can find some form on his return has Torsten Hallman, Mickeal Pichon, Eric Geboers and Gajser not far ahead. No doubt in time he will pass Hallman, Pichon and Geboers in the next year or two, adding more depth to this current era on the all time lists.
Good to see a Belgian moving up the lists, with Jago Geerts passed Pauls Jonass on the current rider list to move into sixth place with his 13 GP wins and has Clement Desalle and Tom Vialle in his sights to move into the top five position.
