Tim Gajser made it another podium for Honda HRC at the MXGP of Australia, after weather severely affected the proceedings. Gajser’s third place in moto one was enough for his third podium in a row, rounding off this 2025 campaign on a high.

“Not quite the ending of the season that I would have liked,” Gajser said. “With the race two being cancelled, but it was probably the right decision given the conditions that were on track. My first race with a third was good, I just couldn’t quite get close enough to make a move on the rider in second for the entire race. And obviously, overall, this season wasn’t how I wanted it to go but there were still some positives, and it was nice to comeback after injury and compete with the top guys again.”

Due to the track conditions after all the rain, it was decided that the second MXGP race two would be cancelled, and the overalls would be determined by how they finished in race one. For Gajser that meant a third-place finish, after he stalked the rider in second for the entire moto, unable to make a pass.

On the Saturday After a fifth in timed practice, Gajser got a good start and was with the top five as they rounded the first corner. However, as he tried to make moves, the riders in front were able to repel his attacks and instead he ate a lot of roost, which ended up causing him to have to drop back a bit. Unfortunately, that allowed another rider to make their move and although he fought back near the end, the #243 ended up crossing the line in fifth place.

“It was a tough day, but I think they did a good job with this whole race. The circuit is difficult to judge with different spots requiring different skills, so it always keeps you on your toes. I was battling the entire race and unfortunately the roost caused me an issue that meant I wasn’t able to push forward as much as I would have liked, still, fifth is a decent result and I think I’ll be able to do better tomorrow.”

Gajser will now head to America, where he will again try and get one over on Jett Lawrence for the overall victory, just as he did at Matterley Basin in 2024. While Team Slovenian don’t have a shot at winning, you just know that the five-time world champion will want to beat the American champion again.
