Gajser Magic in Switzerland
HRC rider Tim Gajser has taken a brilliant 1-1 victory in Switzerland and extended his championship points gap over Jorge Prado and Jeffrey Herlings. Herlings finished with 2-2 and Prado 3-3. It was Gajsers 49th GP win and just one more and he equals the great Joel Roberts for GP victories.
The points lead is now 18 and the confidence must be sky high. Championship points are now Tim Gajser 860pts, Jorge Prado 842pts, Jeffrey Herlings 818pts.
Tim Gajser: Yes, I mean, I was just feeling great, making passes easy and built a gap and controlled the race. We always work hard and the bike was amazing. I can't wait for the last three rounds. I mean, just three rounds to go and I lost ground in Lommel and Arnhem, but I am looking forward to these tracks we are going and I had two solid starts here and a lot of lines and you had to pick the right lines and I want to thank the team and my fans.
Jeffrey Herlings: Yes, both times once I got to second, he was gone and I had to speed and it doesn’t bring me anything. 2-2 on a track I don’t really like but my bike set-up was good, but I couldn’t get out of the start. Turkey and China will suit me better.
Jorge Prado: I was a tough day and I struggled with my health in moto one, but I am struggling with the leg, which I hurt in moto one. Today everything was hard and trying to beat these guys is difficult.
MXGP Moto Two
Renaux from Prado, Febvre, Seewer, Coldenhoff, Toendel, Bonacorsi, Fernandez, Koch, Gajser and Herlings 16th. Gajser quickly into fifth place and Herlings 12th. Another horrible start by Herlings. Renaux gets a nice break on Prado of two seconds and Herlings into 10th, with Gajser into fourth.
Lap two and the top ten was Renaux, Prado, Febvre, Gajser, Seewer, Coldenhoff, Herlings, Forato, Fernandez and Bonacorsi. Herlings moved into sixth place with a pass on Coldenhoff and is nine seconds off the leaders. Prado looking a lot more comfortable now the track is dried up.
Prado working hard to take the lead, but Renaux is very good at blocking the lines of Prado. Gajser in fourth behind Febvre was four seconds behind the leaders. Suddenly Gajser six seconds off the lead of Renaux. Herlings all over Seewer and the best lap of the moto.
Renaux slowing the pace and Febvre closing up on the two front guys and Gajser also closing on the top three. Herlings just 7.4 behind now and also coming for those guys. Herlings passed Seewer and 5.3 behind and Gajser now 3.1 behind Prado, who passed Renaux, but the Frenchman repassed the Spaniard.
Prado into the lead and knows he has to get away, because the others were closing fast. Gajser behind Febvre and Herlings behind Gajser. Top five separated by 4.2 seconds. Looks so hard to pass and Prado two seconds ahead of Renaux already. Amazing the amount of championships inside the top five.
Lap eight and the lead by Prado is 1.3 over Febvre, who held a second over Renaux, who had has just passed and Gajser all over Renaux and Herlings is next. This race is heating up. Herlings into fourth place and Renaux goes from leading to fifth in a couple of laps. Two seconds separation the top four. This is Grand Prix motocross at its best.
All four going for the win now, with the top five 15 World championships between them. Gajser into second and going after Prado now and Herlings losing a bit of ground on the top three. Herlings loses more ground as he is now 4.3 off the Prado pace. Gajser looks like he is just waiting to pass Prado. Gajser into the lead and again showing his nerves of steel.
Prado a small mistake and lost some ground on Gajser, but the Spanish rider will not give up yet. Herlings now five seconds of the three leaders. Herlings again all over Febvre and maybe over some arm pump, his pace has returned. Still five seconds offthe lead of Gajser. Prado possibly soon to be passed by both Febvre and Herlings who are right on him.
Gajser with a four second lead over Prado, but Prado, Febvre and Herlings are locked together. On lap 13 the lead by Gajser was now five seconds. Herlings again lost a lot of time on Prado and Febvre.
Lap 15 and the lead by Gajser is 4.2 as Herlings passed Febvre and Herlings now chasing Prado for some valuable points, Herlings really pushing Prado hard and the Dutchman moved into second and Gajser would be smiling in his helmet. Three laps to go, can Herlings catch the HRC man and take the moto and GP victory.
Three laps remaining and the lead by Gajser was 4.3 seconds and you just know Herlings will go for it. Top ten on lap 17 was Gajser, Herlings, Prado, Febvre, Seewer, Renaux, Forato, Horgmo, Fernandez and Bonacorsi. Two laps remaining the gap was 4.6. Gajser extended the lead to 6.7 second and he wins the moto and the GP and makes the points gap between himself and Prado a lot more.
